Why do casual football fans blame Cam instead of Ron for this mess?

Recommended Posts

All these "face of the franchise" commenters... how many people were blaming Aaron Rodgers for the Packers' poor season prior to McCarthy's firing?

The typical fan doesn't pay enough attention to draw draw their own conclusions but everyone wants to have an opinion, so they just claim the media's opinions as their own. We all know the media never misses an opportunity to rag on Cam.

If Cam had a healthy shoulder we are probably in the discussion for winning the Superbowl. He had us at 6-2 with a bum shoulder. Then it just completely gave out on him.

I just pray he gets his full arm strength back, I miss those deep balls Cam use to throw to Ginn.

This.

And maybe i'm blissfully unaware, but for what few Panthers fans I run into in the Lowcountry, all are hoping to see Cam back healthy.

It’s concerning that Cam is having issues with his throwing shoulder for 3 seasons now...  His throwing motion is all messed up and his deep ball has been nonexistent for 3 seasons.  Do I hope he comes back and puts together an MVP like season?  Hell yea!  Do I think it will happen? No.

What Cam have: https://www.physio-pedia.com/Dead_arm_syndrome

No surgery would likely mean Cam will have throwing problems going forward.

If Cam does get a surgery, he will likely miss some games next year as QBs usually not allowed to throw for about 6 months after the surgery and might be 2020 before he will throw bombs again.

Newton's play fell off a cliff last season, especially down the stretch. The subject of countless huge hits, Cam operated nowhere near his MVP level of 2015.

"He's gonna have to rebuild his confidence. I mean, he was shook. Let's be honest. I'm not going to lie about that," Rivera said on Wednesday in Phoenix. "The young man went through a tough time and we went through a tough time. Why? Because of the injuries that we suffered on the offensive line. That was probably was the biggest thing. It just kind of shows you ... more of the importance of being able to protect your quarterback."

This is from article describing 2016 season...  nothing has changed... no protection for Cam... Cam is injured again.  We have learned nothing from our mistakes.

I’m guessing you were referring to me? GB fans overall are much smarter than the average panther fans. They are a publically owned team. I’m actually moving to Wisconsin before the summertime and after getting a feel for the fans around there the past ten trips I’ve made, they are more in tuned to the team and football in general. Huge UW football fans and Packer fans all over this state. Those fans know football and ice fishing.  North Carolina is a basketball state. Wisconsin is a football state.

In the modern NFL age of the pass, Cam hasn't thrown for 4000 yards in a season since his rookie year and his protection of the ball (passing) hasn't been stellar with every season being +10 in interceptions and his attempts being lower than the modern NFL QB.  Matt Ryan for instance has not had a season with under 500 attempts in cams career, while cam has only had 2 over and even cams highest pass attempts in a season is 10 attempts less than Ryans fewest.  Both of those QB's have similar Interception numbers, but cams are coming in a lot fewer attempts.  All of this is to say, Cam is not without blame but Average joes don't know what their talking about so they see him not doing what "other QB's" are and think he's bad.  I still would like to see what Cam can do with Norv when healthy because I think he was also hindered by Mike Shula.

Summation, Cam is partially to blame, not wholly to blame but he gets the most since he's the face of the franchise.  Rivera is more to blame than Cam, and Gettleman/Hurney are more to blame than either because of crappy roster construction.

FWIW, when the saints were doing crappy from 2014-2016, As someone with a lot of Saints fans as friends, there were more than you could ever imagine calling for them to cut/trade Drew Brees...Yes one of the greatest QB's of all time, they thought he was the problem.
