They looked awful. He basically neutered David Johnson.

It is still probably the worst roster in the league besides the Raiders

theres literally 3 good players on that team: Johnson, Chandler Jones, Peterson and then whats left of Fitzgerald. They gutted their roster from 2015 worse than we did. Add in a rookie QB who wasnt ready and i dont think any coach would have succeeded

Against the Saints maybe. Defense looked terrible against the Falcons.

The Saints scored a combined 26 points against us in 2 games which is something of a miracle. The defense looked good in the 2nd half of the 2nd TB game. Personnel failings were the fault of the Atlanta game and I've already blotted out the Cleveland one so I can't comment on that. He absolutely knows how to call plays on defense and I don't think you have to be a Ron Rivera fanboy or even want him back as head coach to see that.

Also from Rodrigue...

I agree we should keep Washington as the DL coach. I was calling for Rivera to take over play calling and Washington to go back to manning the DL pretty early on in the season. Rivera is always too slow to make adjustments in every facet of his job.

One hangup with Wilks to CAR: He will have options, and those options will be with HCs whose seats won’t be as warm as Rivera. He will want to avoid another potential 1-year deal

This is also very true. While we're expecting shake ups throughout the assistant coaching positions, good candidates would likely be wise to look elsewhere for more job security. Rivera's biggest flaws aren't fixable and they'll continue to bubble to the surface until he's fired.

And this is why you don't have lame duck seasons. Either Fire him or say your, totally invested.

So Jones sees Rivera's seat as "warm"...

Exactly...
Not that we want Wilks back but if Rivera is 'made' to make coaching changes that means everyone knows he is on the hot seat and why would any good candidate want to come here? This is actually yet another counter to the dumb argument of not firing Rivera just because 8 other HCs got fired.

Our team is actually a better landing spot for HCs to hit the ground running with future HoFers at multiple positions, key positions at that including QB...

With Vance Joseph out, Rivera needs to be on the phone right now trying to secure his services as the defensive coordinator.

Personally I think we have to bring in Joseph or Wilkes.   Wilkes makes a ton of sense to me.  Great coach.
