TD not returning per WFNZ

I guess this is a good move or bad move depending on what TD wanted to be paid. Team friendly deal there's no need to tell him to hit the bricks. If they pay Shaq a ridiculous amount and let TD walk it will wake even less sense. TD isn't what he was, but I would consider him a mid grade NFL LB at his age.

Based on his performance this year, keeping TD one more season doesn't seem unreasonable.

Having said that, I'd rather part ways one year too soon rather than one year too late.

If TD decides to play another year or two for another team before retiring, it won't impact my admiration for what he has accomplished as a Panther.

Ultimately, team comes first.

I agree with you except it seems a bit early to do this if true. Unless we plan on drafting a LB early, I think there may be too many holes to fill in the draft to pick one and getting another in FA could cost just as much for a lesser player. The timing seems off to me. Team friendly deal for a year keeps a decent LB for us and allows one more year to fix as many other holes as we can going into 2019. Plus, all this is based off Hurney having a long term plan and I have little confidence in him.

Davis had a much better PFF grade than Reid.

It's kind of reasonable to think that if they're not asking Davis back, Peppers might not be back either.

I agree but with only 2 DE signed currently Addison and Haynes we could use Pep as a pass rush specialists. I know we need new youth but at this point we have to fill at least 3 DE spots, DT, both safety positions, center (or depth at center) gaurd  and tackle. If Pep is willing to come back we would be crazy to not sign him.

Get this man a statue right in front of JR's and tear the latter's down. Maybe nobody would notice? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'll be blown away if we don't resign Davis and keep Shaq on his salary. If we bring in an outside body, then I may understand....but Davis played fine this year. The defense was held back by the lack of consistent pressure and Mike Adams, not TD.

TD played poorly this year? LOL

Apparently not well enough to bring back next year, at least in the minds of the Panthers brass.

Given that Davis was all but implying he'd play for free, apparently they don't believe his projected performance next year is worth even vet minimum.

Even before this possible news, I've had Linebacker as the 3rd most important need on the team. We really fell off in a hurry there between TD's decline and Shaq never living up to his billing.

I want to see what last years rookie linebackers can do before drafting more when we have much bigger needs

There are definitely a lot of question marks heading into next season and keeping TD around for another year might be the right call.

Historically, the Panthers find breaking up hard to do.  That is why, if this report is accurate, it is rather surprising and may signal a significant change in team philosophy.
