Kiper has one job and that is to make mock drafts.  He should know the needs of the teams at least

Are you saying DE isn’t a need?  Either way all it takes is one team ahead of you to pick a different player to change what you do at your pick.  drafts are extremely fluid.

DE is certainly a need.  But Burns only makes sense if we are going to a 3-4 defense.  He 235 lbs.  he couldn’t play an early down 4-3 DE for 3 years until he puts on weight.

Yep. I think Thompson is falling like a rock and there are a ton of options. I think for 8m you may get two decent FA Ss. It wouldn’t shock me to see Collins and Reid be 8m a year combined. Mathieu was the highest paid S before Berry’s deal and he only got a 1 year 7m deal and there’s just as many good Ss in FA this year.

Nasir Adderley is going to jump up boards very soon. Might choose him over any S right now.

If Ed Oliver is still on the board at #13, we better do everything we can to jump Atlanta at #14 and get him. He's absolutely the next Aaron Donald, and I don't want to see him on the other side of the field twice a year.

The other guy I'd trade up for is Devin White.

It’s a good thing for us. Thompson in some draft info may be falling to the 3rd with the way he ended the season (bad against Clemson). FA safeties abound and like last year they weren’t paid much. Mathieu got the most at $7m for 1 season. We should be able to sign Reid pretty cheap and honey get a guy like Collins or Mathieu for not much more. They’re really devalued contract wise.

I would be shocked if he fell to the third.  Fans and media types tend to overreact to single games such as playoff and bowl games, and also the combine.  At the point in the season teams I would think teams have pretty solid grades in players.  They might tweak them a small amount but the majority of their grade is based off a larger body of work.

i do agree though that safeties, for whatever reason, are de rallies among a lot of teams.

Positional value comes into play with first round picks as well. Do you really want to invest a pick in a safety when they are among the cheapest positions to fill via free agency?  Makes more sense to go with a position where you either can't find quality free agents or they cost a fortune.

Very valid point.  Teams have to look at replacement cost.  If you only had one need you could look at a pick in a vacuum but nobody has just one need.   You have to look at the best way to address all of your needs betweennokayers alreadybon your roster, free agents, and all of your draft picks.

The goal is the most talented team, not the most talented single positiin.

i think there is a chance DT might be the bow at 16but because of the depth of talent this year it might be better to wait until the second.

What is better? CB(1st) and DT(2nd) or DT(1st) and CB(2nd)?  DT(1st) or safety in free agency or safety(1st) and DT in free agency?

Really with the depth of DTs in this draft you might see some veteran DTs released later in the year.  At that point you can sign one of them and use the draft position for an area of need.

in reality it’s impossible to prederrime what you are going to do this early in the draft process.

That would be an awful selection for the Panthers. An undersized, tweener. No thanks.

kiper is an idiot

You mean like Kalil Mack, Von Miller, Dee Ford, Frank Clark? Personally I’d rather have someone who can get interior pressure and collapse a pocket. But there are plenty of 250lb pass rushers excelling in the league.

ROFLMAO....thanks for the laugh hair man mel.

Does showcase what we were saying about dropping to the 16th pick though....that 9th pick is just looking so much better and clearly and obviously could give us more options if someone wanted to move up to get the next QB.
