Who is the best UDFA in Panthers history?

Hoover is underrated but was a great player at his position and would get my vote. If you're only talking guys who ended up with huge contracts then yeah, Norwell.

Absolutely agree, but even back when FBs were a staple position it wasn't uncommon to find good ones in the later rounds or undrafted. They were kind of along the lines of a punter. They were rarely anything other than late round picks or UDFAs due to positional value.

I'd say Hoover was the best UDFA for us. He played with us for 10 seasons; his entire career. I'd say we got the most value out of him.

Yeah Norwell was way better but since we let him walk so soon gotta go with Hoover. He was one of the best his whole career when FB was still used around the league.

Hoover is underrated according to whom? He is far and away one of the more popular players from the early years and one that is constantly mentioned when discussing iconic Panther's players.

    • Don't think it hurts that much. IMO, not much of a dropoff from somebody like Gipson compared to Rozeboom. Regardless, I still think we are looking at an ILB in the first 3 rounds. There are quite a few interesting prospects between Rodriguez, Golday, and Hill Jr. that would be good 2nd round picks if they make it to us (Rodriguez might be a stretch since it seems like teams are falling in love with him). Kyle Louis and Lawson are worth a look also in the 3rd
    • I think that is the first goal of pretty much every team. No one seeks to make it in via WC, in August anyway. You take what you can get, but you always set out to win your division.  People look around at their division foes and say okay we can probably expect strong rushing attacks. So we’ll need a stout run D. Mandatory. Etc. We drafted TD basically to spy on Vick. We could do nothing with him up until then. It kind of helped but they were still putting it on us too often for a while. You have to match up to your division.
    • This is the goal for this team. It all starts there. Success starts with winning the division every year at bare minimum. Once you do that then you can worry about owning the nfc. Do that then we can talk championships.
