I know everyone is saying we don't need another DT, but consider we have no intention of extending Butler and if Poe is still dead weight this season he can be cut with some cap savings.  Then we are back to KK and McCoy.  We would only be heavy this season.

I think it would be a mistake though to view McCoy as a long-term solution since he's 31. Short is also 30. Love is 32.

I think we're going to be looking at DL early in the draft again next year.

A front loaded 3-year deal with a club option 4th may be good enough to entice him to come to Carolina.  That's so the club can cut their losses after year two and come out better versus the cap if need be.

Don’t underestimate the importance of Ron Rivera on that meeting. He’s met with an offensive coach in Kitchens in Cleveland and a former special teams coach in Harbaugh with the Ravens. Rivera should hold some clout in that meeting.

McCoy knows the Panthers better than any other team. He knows if Cam is healthy then we are a force. Otherwise he is putting his fate in the hands of two second year quarterbacks in Cleveland and the Ravens. He wants to know about the defense and how he will fit. He might think having Rivera coach him is a plus. I think that Baltimore as a defense is more exciting for a D linemen especially with his old line coach in Tampa now with the Ravens. But we have the best chance to make the playoffs. Plus we are the only warm weather team. The money will be close but the years might not be nor the guaranteed amount.

I would, hypothetically, see McCoy as a mid term solution.  Even if he was here just 2-3 years, that would be fine.  It would branch us from the time period of Butler/Poe leaving next year, and whoever we would hypothetically draft next year.

If him came,it will be a real 3-4,not a hybird,then we will cut more DL,even LB,like Haynes/Obada/Cox/Andre Smith/Carter,just a little waste.

If we have the luxury of cutting a fringe player for a solid (former) all-pro with gas left in the tank, I think that's a good thing and not a waste.

    • And remind y’all that Rico Dowdle ran the ball 7 times on Monday.
    • I didn't want to pay him and they should have traded him before the 20+ million in dead cap. I feel this is another "blame tepper", he wanted a QB and Panthers only had 4 draft picks. CMC got a bad health report and missed games, but league still valued him and he was the best player on the team. Shitttttterererererererer traded him for 4 future picks, the future 2nd ended up being 61st........so all the other draft picks in 5th 4th were next to last, just a mistake. Yes 49ers at the time looked cook, but CMC helped them reach the SB. Used that 2nd and 3rd in the BY and DJ Johnson trades.....just awful returns. It was dirty to wilks to trade CMC while he was trying to make the playoffs, best I member the run game got better after the trade....   Im just one of those "never pay RB, safety, or MLBs" unless cheap/all world. CMC is not all world, but he's dang close.  Poorly handle, he bought a big home and thought he'd remain a career panther....Herniay made him the 16 million man, tops by 4 full million and no RB passed that mark for 2 years, God dam fug you herniay.  Im anti-RB, but about the last thing they should have done was trade a 1000 1000 threat that wanted to stay here, just total fumble by the Panthers/tepper/herniay/fittterererererererere per normal for this time-line.
