Cam has been changing his mechanics.

Recommended Posts

So this could be the best news I have heard this offseason. Ian rappaport is reporting Cam has changed his mechanics and delivery.

While I love Cam he sometimes drives me crazy with his undisciplined mechanics.  If he is healthy and has bought into doing everything, including fixing his mechanics, this year could be outstanding.  Be interesting to see him throw tomorrow.

Maybe Scott Turner is better than Ken Dorsey...? This has been a long time coming—too long. And it’s on the coaching staff, not Cam. Also may have played a part in his shoulder injuries...

I'm always a little leery of supposed throwing mechanics tweaks/overhauls. Generally speaking, when the bullets are flying in live action, guys revert back to the way they've been doing it their entire lives.

But, if you're going to focus on fundamental mechanics, probably no better time than after a long layoff due to injury.

Odd year offseason FTW

Good for Cam, though, and hopefully this new motion sticks and is improved.  Whatever the reason be...coaching, long term success, less pain and torque, hell even seeing a QB drafted ...the Cam news lately is so beautiful. Put up some MVP numbers and get that man a new contract.

Greg Cosell said as much at the Super Bowl last year...he said that Cam is a power thrower and uses just his arm and has never had the best mechanics, but because of the injury, he was going to have to change his motion or his career would be shorter and he would start to have pain in his shoulder again..

First half last year was his most accurate in the whole career, mind you it can always be polished a little more of course.

He only had one game with a completion pct lower than his career average and that was his last. Even when his limited he was completing above his historic trend

    • Ravens mixing it up with a random Mark Andrew tush push last year isn't a similar situation.  Lamar has run QB sneaks his entire career.  And often instead of a traditional sneak will even employ a 4th and 1 direct snap to Lamar simply because of how athletic he is (which even Cam did a lot of) and let him pick his own holes.
    • height being an issue doesn't just mean batted balls.  You could argue Bryce minimizes batted balls by adopting other poor habits such as his jump passing and leaving the pocket.   As I said, there are plays you can point to where he clearly was blind to parts of the field/players....which kills plays and opportunity. Which actually means some of the shorter/hot throws when things break down are where his vision gets blocked (and he had below average production all around the line of scrimmage).   has he figured it out? I mean, he improved off a trainwreck start.  But Bryce Young since arriving in the league (even while figuring it out)......doesn't generate much offensive production vs his peers.  I just think his ceiling is low.   And that's not in the grand scheme what you want in the NFL.  I think he can develop into a serviceable QB, that will largely always been a middle of the pack or low end starter.
    • People make a lot of noise about his footwork and I think it is overblown. Whether he takes 3 steps backwards or 5 small steps doesn't matter as long as he ends up at the right depth and is in sync with  the receiver regarding timing. If he does that consistently who cares as long as he has a firm stable base as he delivers the ball. Which he does need to work on. However even that is somewhat overblown given that often QBs have to throw off balance or from different arm angles to fit the ball around defenders. He is considered very accurate so apparently it isn't hurting him that much.
