For those overreacting to preseason performances

Nathan Peterman in preseason the last two years:
6 TDs, 1 INT, Avg QBR: 113.0

4-2 record

All I'm saying is, you cannot read much of anything in preseason games, some teams run vanilla, some run random ass schemes that won't see the light of day, and it does not hold value when it comes to regular season football.

This is true for every single play of the preseason except for about 3 drives in game 3.

just so happens that starting line got Cam Newton injured and we couldn’t move the ball much prior to that.

Its not overreacting when you see a team that doesn’t look like it has its poo together vs a team that looks like it does, it’s just recognizing facts.

Ive always been quick to defend the coaching staff but I’m starting to wonder about them.

Ron has said over and over that the team has “shown them what we wanted to show them” in terms of what film he gives other teams in the preseason.   Hell the Falcons haven’t won a preseason game in over three years .   Other teams who are typically losers throughout the year tend to be world beating champions in the preseason.   The games are pointless and each year coaches and players take the approach that they are not worthwhile and serve very little purpose except for the back ups.

Theses days preseason is a glorified practice as McCoy pointed out and is mainly used to evaluate non-starters. I bet in a couple years no team will play their starters bc of injury risks. I’m not convinced the starters are going 100% either.

Jimmy G sitting on a 137 million dollar contract went 1 of 6 for zero yards and an interception in his preseason start. This after throwing 5 consecutive picks in camp.

Panthers fans in general might want to start appreciating the talent we have before it's gone.

Ouch.

Looking like Matt Cassel v. 2.0. Well, he actually has some work to do to get there. Cassel at least had a couple of pretty good years in KC.

There are two things that I check in the preseason:

First, individual performances. Units are hard to judge in preseason, but at least you can see which guys within those units are winning their individual matchups, and which ones aren't.

Second, game three. It's the dress rehearsal game and the game where teams do at least some level of game planning.  Fair or not, in this year's game three we looked sloppy and unprepared.

It may turn out to be nothing, but I have to admit it's concerning.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
