Panthers Claim Three Off Waivers

To me the head scratcher is Zylstra. Can’t find much on him. 6-2. 212lbs and a 4.64 40.

He did have over 100 catches for 1600 yards in the CFL in 17’

But the Vikings did like him:

“The true surprise was Brandon Zylstra getting cut, though reports are that Zylstra could rejoin the team after getting through waivers and spending a short time on the practice squad. Zylstra made eight catches in his three preseason games and already has a year on the roster under his belt.”

He can return punts and might be good in the RZ.

Interested to see him at practice.

Random comment on Natrell Jamerson:

“Having the flexibility to come down in the box and play slot cornerback only adds to his potential value. And he’s experienced in a variety of roles on special teams.

Fringe roster types must be able to differentiate themselves from other fringe roster types to make the team. Jamerson’s versatility as a safety/slot cornerback hybrid could eventually give him a deciding factor for making the 53-man roster.”

Zylstra seems can be a big receiver like Funchess.

Not sure how any of these guy help us. At least the ones we cut spent training camp with us. These guys have barely any NFL experience

I think they are all ST players. Zylstra had over 100 ST snaps last year for the Vikings so he does stuff like kick and punt coverage. McCloud is a PR. Jamerson is a KR and has the ability to be a jack of all trades DB backup who can play CB, S and nickel.

I guess I don’t understand dropping a 9 year vet who is helping the young guys and a RB with loads of potential for ST jags

I hear you, but Holyfield's upside just isn't that high. I'd argue that but for age, he should have been gone before Artis-Payne.
