Is McCaffrey already our best non-QB offensive player in franchise history?

Anyone else remembering opponents playing a dedicated corner with safety help over the top, a outside lb at the los (out at the numbers!) jamming and still playing the other safety in the middle so he could help?

89 still blow them up

CMC is amazing, and he's on course to be one of the greatest Panthers of all time if he keeps it up and we keep him around.

However, he's not yet Steve Smith.

There were a handful of years there where Agent 89 was just flat uncoverable.  Best corners in the game, two DB's, didn't matter.  89 was open.  Even when he wasn't open he was open.  Steve Smith just terrorized people for years.

I can only hope that CMC reaches that level, because if he does, we'll get another shot at a SB.

For perspective, a lot of Smith's legend was made in playoff performances. We haven't seen a playoff game with McCaffrey as a starter yet.

(and if you're thinking of trying to make a correlation between those things, do yourself a favor and don't be a dumbass)

I think the argument is him vs Smith. Smith was a complete beast but even at his best was he as good as McC has been?

Bro, you must not remember Smitty in his prime. 2005 he won the triple crown for receivers. CMC is great but he needs sustained success to be in consideration.

CMC doesn't have the longevity or post season success that Smitty had.

All you can really say is he's off to an excellent start but the guy has only played in 2.5 seasons and 1 playoff game (which he lost).

You at least need to watch him play for a decade and see if he can keep it up to even start to compare him to Smith, unless he wins a Super Bowl in the meantime.

Hard to judge a guy, anyone, by 1 season.  2015, not 2013, by Luke was the best I have ever seen any MLB play in the NFL ever.  Since then he has still been good but not as good as he was that year.  The start of this year is the best I have seen any RB play in the NFL ever.  I never saw Jim Brown play but I saw every year Barry Sanders played and he was something to watch.  But what people don't tell you about Barry is he might have 5 runs of 20+ yards a game he would also have 5 runs of negative yards a game.  There were several years where Barry led the league in most negative runs and most 40+ yard runs.  I don't see that kind of thing from CMC and you are still getting the big runs.  But it is still just 1 year.

Smitty did it for years and put the fear into people.  CMC will get there if he keeps it up.
