Would you sign Josh Gordon?

Yes. And of course he could always be a fugup. I do believe people evolve over time and their is no telling what mindset he is in. Maybe belichick's approach wasn't for him. I dont see the Patriots as a family type atmosphere, they have that next man up anyone is replaceable mentality. So if the price is right why not..

I don’t want Gordon for various other reasons, but they didn’t want Kyle Love either... he’s turned out to be a core depth/rotation guy here for a long time now.

I wasn't aware Love had off the field issues and had been suspended multiple times. Who knew.

Rule of Thumb: When you see a name player released, take a look at who's releasing him.

Ask yourself, do they generally know what they're doing?

If the answer is yes, then buyer beware.

Additional rule when it's Belichick: Strongly consider the possibility that there's something he's not telling.

I mean at this point we would be replacing Brandon Zylstra or DeAndrew White to bring him in so don’t really care if he doesn’t work out. He has never been a locker room problem. Just has major addiction issues.

I know everybody gets excited when they see a player they've heard of being let go, but pump the brakes a little, folks.

Yes, there are occasionally stupid moves, but the vast majority of teams (even the bad ones) tend to know what they're doing when they cut a player, especially if it's a guy with real starter potential.

Most of the guys you find on the street that actually do contribute something tend to be depth / role player types. The most common reason those guys are let go is because the team got somebody better.

(granted, sometimes it's because they wound up being more trouble than they're worth, in which case again, buyer beware)

But when it's a guy who's genuine starter quality, especially if it's at a position where the team isn't all that deep, there's probably a reason.

And you'd be wise to find out what that reason is before you jump on them.

Being reported that Gordon’s expected release is performance related, having nothing to do with him being a locker room problem or having off field issues.

I’m not a fan of trying to sign Gordon and while I see what you’re saying, I don’t completely agree. Often times a change of scenery and coaching staff, scheme, teammates, etc. can result in much better (or worse results).you should evaluate players consistently and not focus on guys getting released or whatever. And also, I’m not convinced Belichick is a great talent evaluator. Greatest coach ever, but he’s had a ton of misses in the draft, FA, and trades..

That's... not exactly a ringing endorsement either

Released players are never going to have a ringing endorsement from their former team.

He was 3rd in targets.  The rest of his contract is not guaranteed.  With Edelman/Sanu/White/Meyers.  And now N'Keal Harry set to make his season debut.  Gordon was the odd man out.

Fwiw, I dont think it's that simple.  The patriots run a very cerebral route tree, the air coryall is not that and it's why we could maximize ted ginn imo.  Chad Johnson (ocho cinco) flopped for that exact reason.  With josh still in peak condition, I think just running basic routes he could be fine especially as a #2.  Bigger issue is keeping the drugs away, but I think we have a solid locker room core that can help.

The Patriots run an Erhardt-Perkins. It's actually pretty similar to our system, just different terminology.

Between the two, our terminology is generally considered to be the more complex.

    • 31st rushing D and 8 carries by Rico is coaching.  Rico is easily the best offensive weapon right now and it’s not really close.  *literally everyone knows Dalton is washed, horrible and shouldn’t even be a backup QB.   Drive 1? ZERO carries.  Coaching.  Drive 2 - Rico was playing great.   Did Canales lean into that or go for “balance”? Coaching. Drive 3 - ZERO carries.  Coaching  Drive 4 - 1 carry and opted for Jimmy Horn gadget rush (you can’t stick  with the Horn repetitive gadget runs each week and that’s not a better idea than getting Rico going)  Drive 5 - basically Dalton heavy as the half expired.  I don’t need to watch a game to know it’s coaching.  The gameplan wasn’t about setting Rico up to go off on a trash rush D.  It was bullshit harmony balance of the rush and the pass and making Hubbard feel good.
    • In the locker room after the Dallas game, multiple  players said FEED him when Canales mentioned Rico stats. That already made me think even the locker room wouldn't care if Rico got the touches rn. This is on Canales indeed and I agree n the Qb take.  We aren't winning  bc of Bryce  but he has been managing it. Had the Jets had Qb aptitude,  we could've probably  lost that game too. All they would've needed is 14 points. Regardless, we got a team  that's being built up and that position needs an overhaul.
    • I think he was trying to mimic the Lions with Montgomery and Gibbs. They are just more of the exception to the rule and Brooks was too much of a gamble to be a Gibbs type player. The Lions also didn’t sign Montgomery and draft Gibbs until their offense was nearly set. It was more of a luxury take the offense to the next level type of deal.
