Opinions: OL is terrible, Newton should sit the rest of season

A staff that isn't guaranteed to have jobs next year isn't going to do anything based on what's best for the future.

How would this be the best move for the future though?  You can't essentially punt on the season just because your OL is bad.

And while I'm one of the biggest Newton homers around, the fact of the matter is if he can't perform at a good level behind a below average OL, then there's no reason for him to be brought back.  So it would be better for our future to go ahead and find that out now.  Russell Wilson survived terrible OLs, worse than the one we have now.  Newton, if he's healthy, should absolutely 100% play.  I can't believe this is even a question.

If you are too scared to play your quarterback when he is healthy for half season because he might get hurt then you need to get a new quarterback.

If he is 100% healthy then he plays. If he can’t get healthy or you won’t play him when he is healthy then he needs to be traded or cut.

I'm not saying it is what's best for the future.

I'm saying our present staff doesn't care about the future.

Guys that are worried about their jobs in the present aren't going to do something that could jeopardize them now for the sake of future considerations.

It'd basically be like saying "sure this might get us fired but maybe it'll help out whoever they hire to replace us".

I think Cam needs to start this week.

Let's get on with it and see where he's really at.

If he's healthy and ready to go I really hope this is the plan.  Realistically I think we see Kyle one more time against Tennessee and then Cam comes back against Green Bay.

Why should Newton get a free pass?  Put his ass out there and let him play like he's getting paid to.  He's healthy.  Enough with the piss poor excuses about health.

If he is healthy...but we've been fooled before...waiting too long better than jumping the gun...not too many setbacks left in the tank...

First time poster here and what a lovely way to start at CH than after a blow out loss.  Obviously it goes without saying that it was more than our OL that contributed to the loss yesterday.  That said, what will cost Rivera and possibly Hurney their job will be the OL.  How many tackles have we rotated through over the last decade?  Gross, Otah, Bell, Campbell, Chandler, Oher, Remmers, Silatolu, Williams, Moton, Little, and Daley (could be missing some guys too).  After Gross retired we have neglicted to ever put an emphasis on the OL and in turn it cost us a Super Bowl, and possibly a franchise quarterback.

Little and Daley have shown promise but there will be growing pains.  Pains that I hope Cam/Allen can withstand...

I know this isn't a direct reply to the topic of sitting Cam because of the OL, but the problems up front for the Panthers have to be addressed or it won't matter who is back at QB...

If he's 100% he'll want to play, & he's gonna play.

I have to admit though, part of me is curious to see if Allen were the QB going forward, would there be some serious attempts to shore up the oline like we've done with the defense.

This is the best overall team Cam Newton has ever had around him.

When healthy, he plays.

A couple weeks ago Schefter reported that he's healed up and ready to go....

....let's get him in there and get on with it.

We HAVE to know if Cam Newton can play football at a high level, and see if he can stay healthy.

If Cam is close to being right, he plays, for 2 reasons.

1:  Ron and Marty are on the hot seat, as they have been all season.  They have to win to keep their jobs.  Healthy Cam gives them the best chance of that.

2:  Cam is entering the last year of his contract, and has a very low dead cap number.  If Cam cannot play well, stay healthy to finish the season, stay healthy while taking part of ALL offseason activities, and play well next season, he will not be with us any longer.(not that Ron and Marty care at all about this point as they may be gone)
