David Tepper recently admitted that it might take a period of losing in order to get the team where he wanted it to be.

The question: How long?

How long would you be able to put up with the growing pains that it might take to build a perennial contender?

At what point might you start to lose faith in Tepper's ownership? And if you did, what would that mean?  What would you do?

I don’t believe in that notion at all. You don’t have to completely suck to get good, especially when we already have many solid pieces already in place. Bring in a new coaching staff and GM who can get the job done from day one.

Excuses aren't going to fly. Panthers haven't exactly been stellar as of late, and still no back to back winning seasons. Someone mentioned recently the Falcons took like 40 years to notch consecutive winning seasons. Hey if we suck it happens, but don't start that new stadium poo on top of it all if such is the case. Especially after giving Rivera another year already knowing his overall body of work as a head coach. None of this was an unknown. Now look where we are. Can't repeat that mistake again. Whatever happens from here with changes we really have to knock it out of the park overall to avoid slipping down into the cellar for an extended period of time. Tepper's initial goodwill he has received from the fans is fading fast. Marketing ploys to increase his popularity aren't going to cut it as a substitute for winning.

If that's the case, it is very unfortunate for a couple of reasons.  For starters, that sounds like he's planning on retaining Hurn-Ron at one more year despite the season spiraling out of control.  Secondly, it sounds like he's admitting that creating a consistent winner in the NFL is a much taller order than he had hoped.  Coming from a club like the Steelers, consistently good teams were the norm, but that's the exception, not the rule.  Aside from the Steelers and a select few other clubs, being a consistent winner is a much steeper hill to climb than one would think.

Idunno, we already have some pieces in place. Even still, if we go to a new coach and gm... not to mention ALL new coaches and coordinators.. at minimum your looking at 2 years to get scheme comfortable. 

Not to mention the above is assuming we have a franchise QB in place. In a perfect world, with Cam, I'd say 1-2 years. 

If I'm rolling the dice on FA QB's and rookie qbs... that timeline could very easily move from 1-2 years to 3-4 years. And that's if we NAIL the pick....

Could be 6-7 (i.e we were to draft a QB and he turned out like Winston, Mariota, Trusbisky, Dalton, etc)

I get that he’s trying to manage expectations. But realistically, it doesn’t have to take that long. There are examples of teams getting things stabilized right out of the box. It really comes down to who he hires, if anybody. There’s gonna have to be one hell of a miraculous run for Ron and Marty to stay around, IMO.

This. Too much parity and too much talent in the draft. A good coaching staff and GM should be able to work with any talent level in the NFL.

I'm trying to think of perennial contenders before the last couple of years. (excludes Saints and Chiefs)

All I can see are,  Steelers, Patriots, (maybe Vikings), and Green Bay. Possibly the old Ravens, and Lions. I don't think its as common as one would think.

      I'm probably one of those posters, but I make those posts because there are too many things going on that don't make sense. For instance, how does a RB that does something that hasn't been done in 14 years immediately get reverted back to 2nd string, and it takes a leadership council to make him the starter when he's averaging 3x the YPC? Your average fan shouldn't be screaming that for 2 weeks before the coach sees it. And that's one of many.  What you're seeing is frustration that we could be better, that we should be better, if our owner, FO, and coaches could do things that are so painfully obvious to even the most basic fan

      I think we're all struggling with what things are right now and what they have been. It's like getting ready to have bandages removed after a long period of injury. The healing, the new growth, they aren't going to be pretty, there's going to be some ongoing issues for a while at best and there's every chance that we're going to have to go back into the bandage situation all over again. And that sucks. But it's also a place where maybe, just maybe, the recovery is going to finally start happening. The bad days will be getting behind us.  It's not going to happen this year, but I believe from what I see that this year is showing that improvement. We focus on the QB because that's what all the pundits focus on, because it's the flashiest and most heralded position on the field. No one wants to put out a tweet about how a center is holding down their job and anchoring a line. They rarely celebrate that blocking tight end or special teams gunner. That fourth CB on the depth chart? Not a mention. And yet, those guys are the kind that we've been building here, we're building the lunch pail guys AND finding some future stars.  Is Bryce one of them? Might be a cornerstone of the team in the future as the second QB, might somehow just show out to end the season. Might flame out like many expect. But if that uncertainty is all we concentrate on, we're just going to miserably look at this team and maybe miss out on some solid green shoots that are finally beginning to poke through into the sunlight.
