Technicality.  We need one just to function and to close out the season.   Can’t just fire him and say we will look....gotta have someone in house that can handle the day to day operations.  And we still bringing guys off the street just to get us through games. 

Tepper said he was hiring a assist GM.  New gig.  I assume that basically means he is looking for Hurney’s replacement

This is the most likely scenario.

There is no indication Tepper's firings have ended.

Because he's already done his college scouting and knows the roster as good as anyone. Some teams wait until after the draft to fire GMs for that reason.
