I would fire Hurney just for this

I would rather fire Hurney for Armanti Edwards than this, Gano has been a solid kicker for us tbh.  How soon we forget the likes of Olindo Mare

He was already fired once for that.  This was a Hurney 2.0 move.

When you have two kickers - you keep the younger cheaper one.  No brainer.   You trade the other to a team that needs one.

Nobody gives a crap about how much you pay a kicker because it really is peanuts compared to any other position. We picked Gano because we felt he was better, which is how any position battle should work.

And he made 29/30 that year. 2018 was good too when he was healthy.

No - it isn't just hindsight.  Butker already looked like he had the goods and we screamed that he wasn't retained.  Everyone on here was talking about it and the reason why they tried to keep both for a while.  When he finally had to cut one - he cut the wrong one.

Agreed.  This isn't a hindsight thing like the Hurney's are suggesting....MANY of us were mad as hell that we kept Gano, and voiced it then.

Just a dumbass move that is still hurting the team.

Are you kidding me?  It was obvious to all of us who the better long term solution was for the team when the move was made.  Games are won and lost because of kickers.  Just look at the past three seasons if you need a refresher of how many games we lost due to our kicker sucking in crucial moments.

Wasn't our decision to make.

You won't find a single GM you agree with every decision they make.

Get over yourself.

Just to put this blunder into a bit of perspective.

Our cost for kickers since we decided to move on from Butker and stick with Gano:  $14,700,000.00

Our cost were we to have kept Butker:  $1,680,000.00

So, we would have a healthy kicker on the roster that is one of the very best in the league, and under contract for 1 more season for less that $800,000.00, and an additional $13,000,000.00 in cap space.....

Nah, just hindsight.

The restructures and bad eye for talent concern me more than the kicker.  Hurney is too scared to lose someone unlike Gettleman.  Not only does he extend aging, declining talent to valuable contracts.  He has missed on pretty much every FA contract ever.  The Bears trade for Greg is the outlier.  Pretty much FA contract that man gave out was overvalued and their production fell off a cliff once they were in Carolina.

Fair point.  I think the kicker thing is just what tipped it for me.

The Chiefs have solidified their lead in the AFC West over the last few weeks and kicker Harrison Butker has helped them do that.

Butker hit a game-winning field goal to knock off the Vikings in Week Nine and has made 10-of-11 field goals and 12-of-13 extra points since the start of November. He’s made all five of the field goals he’s tried from at least 40 yards and posted the second most points in the league over that period despite only playing four games over the last five weeks.

The NFL announced on Thursday that Butker has been named the AFC’s special teams player of the month. He was named the conference’s special teams player of the week after the Vikings game.

Butker is 25-of-29 on field goals and 37-of-39 on extra points over the course of the entire season. He’ll be in New England with the rest of the Chiefs on Sunday.

So he’s 86%?  That’s not far off from Gano’s  average in Carolina (85.7).
