Probably just need to go ahead and cut Grier

this is exactly why some of us wanted to see him on the field. now we don’t have to sit through an off-season of fans and “analysts” speculating on what he might be since we haven’t seen him on the field yet. easy decision, bye grier. and bye allen if you see a project worth taking on late in the draft.

I thought that was why Hurney picked Grier, a project worth taking.

We've had bad QB's over the years but Grier stands alone. No sense in making comparisons. And nobody should be glorifying Weinke. His record as a Panthers starter is 2-17 including our 1-15 season and that loss to the Giants when he threw for 423 yards (and 3 INTs). He only "won" against the Falcons in 2006 because we called the wildcat to DeAngelo almost the entire game. Weinke completed 4 passes of 7 attempted that game. Don't let your selective memory fool ya.

Same line today:

1 quarter, Grier had what 4 pasing yards? Allen comes in and gets 298 in 3 quarters.  It's clear as day.

He's a Hackenberg, Bryce Petty.  Actually a decent XFL prospect.

This.  It took 1 game for defenses to see his arm wasn't a threat. Stop the run and game over.  Had he stayed in the game we probably set an NFL record for least yards in a game. What a waste of a 3rd round pick.

Yup, but unlike Allen, Weinke was supposed to be our franchise QB.  Yikes!

Weinke was not supposed to be a franchise anything. He was drafted in the fourth round as a whatever pick.

Beurlein was cut in favor of Jeff Lewis, who Seifert had traded with Denver to get in 99. Lewis was Seifert chasing his own Steve Young moment.

Beurlein was cut going into the 2001 season because, in Seifert's own words, if Beurlein was still on the team he would have played.

Then the preseason happened and Jeff Lewis was so bad they just cut him, making Weinke the default starter.

The Panthers won their first game, then 9/11 happened and they lost out.

Weinke was nothing. He was still worlds better than Grier.

Lytle was probably not better than Grier.

If you could take Grier's mobility in the backfield and add that to Allen you might have a case for a legit backup to hold on to............but neither by themselves have that status locked up in their skill sets. If I had to choose I would take Allen between the two because he's been able to move the chains in late game drives at least in a West Coast style passing offense.

However, when you consider how bad this oline is frankly if Brees was behind center for Carolina we might be saying how poor of a QB he is...............think about that.

How can you honestly evaluate Grier when the o-line has been straight up garbage? And there are multiple examples of guys having horrible rookie years(Grier has played exactly two games) and having great careers.

Not saying Grier is a future HOFer but I can almost guarantee he will be on the roster in 2020.

Behind the same O-line, with the same resources at hand, Allen was able to complete passes and march that ragged team up and down the field. Grier completed one, ONE, pass.

Kyle finally did show his fatal flaw at the end with the endzone interception, but otherwise he showed a command of the game and offense, along with some mobility and toughness.

Grier looked lost, timid and Clausen-esque at times. Sometimes the jump from college to pro is just too big. He looks like he sees it that way, too, while it looks like Kyle is up to the game's level, but needs work on his field vision, particularly when the field gets short and the routes get crowded.

It's like having two young hunting dogs, one will rush out every time to retrieve the bird even if he has no idea where it landed, the other one just wants to run away when the shotgun goes off. You can work with that first dog and experience will improve him. The second one just won't hunt and maybe will be a good porch dog.
