It's clear now that Tepper saw Rivera as the Problem.

If Hurney gave Fox the talent Ron had, we'll be in the playoffs. Ron wasted Cam and Luke. I know for damn sure one thing... Fox would have our defense top 5 if he had the talent that was on the defense this year. 2 years in the row the team did decent in the 1st half, collapsed in the 2nd half of the season. Ya god damn right Ron was the problem.

John Fox > Ron. Ron being Fox 2.0 my ass.

Fox had a few rough years in the middle, but he won four road playoff games in two years.

Ron Rivera had generational players at middle linebacker and quarterback, and didn’t win one single road playoff game.

John Fox got the most out of his talent in 2003. Go back and look at that roster. I still don’t know how that team plowed through the playoffs. They did.

I still think Hurney remains GM only to “transition” us through the next draft b4 he’s “reassigned” or resigns. No facts - just a feeling.

What's the logic for taking this path?

Why would Tepper handle it as you have described?

A lot of businesses have that one really nice older employee that everybody likes, but who you also know just isn't cutting it at his job. Nobody wants to fire him, so you just hope maybe he'll retire soon.

That's how I see Marty.

I get it . That’s how you see him.
I’m not a Hurndog defender in the least but... it does make you wonder (or it should ) that two of the most successful businessmen on the planet both wanted to employee his services. Neither kept him around because he was a “swell guy” .

What is it that they are seeing and most of us are missing ? Sometimes one has to defer to the opinions of people that are the experts at what they do and what they know.

Obviously it’s all pure speculation by us fans and worthy of debate . However, we don’t see behind the curtain and I guess I just don’t get why some are so adamant.

So let’s unpack this... we win some games early with coaching and players loose key pieces to injury and finish a combined 3-15 because some GM didn’t prepare the teams depth...

I wonder who that GM could be that not only is providing mediocrity but outright failure. Failure to the owner, failure to the coaches, failure to the players and most of all failure to the fans.

It seems you are fine with failure.

And whom never received a sniff from any other team when he was fired the first time.  No idea why anyone could believe Hurney is close to GM material.

Smart at making money doesn't equal football smart. If it did, Dan Snyder and Jerry Jones would be good owners.

As to the reason people are adamant, three winning seasons out of fourteen will do that. Marty hasn't put together a winning team since 2008, even with players like Newton and Kuechly on the roster.

How much longer should we give him?

Tepper asked Ron to use things like analytics and to take over the defensive side of the ball among other things.

It was pretty clear a few weeks into the season Ron had done none of that and was just going through the motions, back to his normal routine like every other season the past few years.

When your boss asks you to do something you should probably listen or you aren't going to have a job for very long.

Why do people keep saying that a successful business person is going to be successful in any field of business? That's like saying a successful auto mechanic can successfully work as an airplane mechanic. Same thing right? No, I wouldn't get on that airplane. The successful business people I have been close to have said to stick to what you know because entering a field you are not an expert in is how you lose your arse.

Tepper has shown zilch at being successful at football. I hope he is or will soon but it's not close to a reality yet.

Hurney stays as long as a new coach wants.  For instance if McDaniels gets the job, couple of guys from New England that might get a as gm have contracts that last till May.  Hurney still has a shadow of an ax hovering.

Yep I agree. I think McDaniels gets hired and he brings Caserio or Ziegler with him. They say hey Hurney u are going to have to take a lower position, then he is going to say I'm done. I think he will be gone after draft.

No reason to think Hurney is going anywhere soon. Hurney clearly would welcome help and might like to train the next guy like he did with Beane. He can get that guy to do the paperwork and let Hurney focus on what he likes to do. Besides even if Tepper had big plans to change everything, he would be phasing things in over time. With Rivera being gone, the players will want stability,  particularly the free agents. Otherwise we might have a serious talent drain unless Tepper can show some stability and that guy is Hurney.
