The case for adding a DT at #7 is a reaction to Raleigh's "The case for adding a LT".  Not my opinion, but an exercise in exploring all options and making a case for each need position.

The only DT I would take in the first round is Brown (Aub).  He can play NT, the 3, or 5 tech.  With KK hitting age 30 and Poe at 31, who do we have on the depth chart?  Sure, you can bring McCoy back and overpay an aging shell of what he used to be (see his 2019 stats) and you can pretend Kyle Love will have juice at age 34--or you can face the reality of the situation:  We have nothing beyond an underperforming, overpriced Short and we want Poe to start "nevermore." 

Some argue, "Sure you are right, but what about OT?"  Greg Little had first round measurables but dropped to the second round because he was raw.  He missed most of camp and played a few games before going to IR.  We have a high draft pick at LT.  We have Daley too.  At DT, we have NOTHING.  Did you not see teams average 5-8 yards per carry against us this year?  Develop the RAW LT with first round ability and do not give up on him because he had a concussion or two and missed key development before being thrown to the sharks.  If you judge him on that, you are being impulsive.  You need to let Matsko work on his balance and footwork.  Address Center and LG, but if you check the roster, we have ZERO at DT except some 30 something underperforming, overpaid fat guys.

If he has a high enough grade, I like DT better than OT honestly.  As much as our O line needs help, what we really need is a G and I just don't think you take a G in the top 10.  Sure, we need a C, but I can't see us spending a top 10 pick on a C either.

If the guy has the potential to be the next KK / Star . . . yea, you take him.

Brown is a great  defensive player, there is no question   He may be generational but today’s NFL favors the offense 

however generational he may be,  we cannot win with QBs on their backs or injured reserve  and finding LTs are much harder than finding a guard or center, both of which also need an upgrade but can be found In rds 2 and 3

Of all the holes (and there are several big ones) the lack of a stud 3-4 DE who can hold down the run while pass rushing is dire. I think we ca. Find an NT later in the draft. We literally have no one there who is on the roster.

With Leatherwood staying at AL this may push the other Oline prospects up a bit more (Wirfs) so I would be good with Brown at 7. Saw him play a lot and he was a high motor beast all year  - I still think Wirfs should be the guy pending the Combine but I wouldnt be upset if we drafted Brown though.

You must not have watched the 2019 season. We need a bunch more than a Guard.

Thomas/Brown/Wirfs, whichever is there (and in that order) for me.

All are dire positions of need. The good thing about this draft is we have so many spots on the roster that are problems so unless we draft a K or P first rd we are only getting better with any of these choices.

We also can’t win when our defense consistently gives up over 100 yards a game on the ground.

I would be ok with the pick as long as there isn’t a stud LT on the board. This draft has very little LT options, we have a guy with two concussions and another guy who showed flashes. Personally I like Daley at LG.
 

Brown is the best option if you go DT, but the draft does have some very good DT’s available

One of Brown and Thomas should be there.  I'll be happy with either one.  I just feel like a franchise LT is much harder to find than a DT, and if you've got the chance, you take it.  Move Little to guard.  Daley is our backup swing tackle.

Then DT in the second.  I recognize the need.

      With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.

      Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.

      Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
