Holy crap! Is that real? How would you even make that kind of mistake?

If you listen to the clear audio(it’s up on heavy)and not the ones going around twitter she’s says LA “Nakers”. Easy to see how this could be misconstrued though.

Not a big basketball fan, butone of my closest friends is a Laker fan and Bryant has long been his favorite player.

Very sad news...

My favorite basketball player of all time is Kobe Bryant.  He's my wife's 2nd favorite player, with her uncle being her favorite.  We still joke about our first date where I tried to fill some conversation time with a basketball debate with the question "who is the greatest basketball player of all time?"  I was going to take Kobe and expected her to take Michael Jordan, but she said someone else.  I dug in hard on it, having no idea it was her uncle.  When I found out it was slightly awkward but she was a good sport about it.  When I finally met her uncle I was going to casually say "sir, do you think you could introduce me to Kobe Bryant," but I chickened out (was a little star struck).

Just last year me and her were at a Hornets game and I told her Kobe was originally a Hornet.  Turns out she didn't know that.

I was 20 minutes into shopping at Walmart (and in a pretty sh*tty mood because I hate going there) when a fellow Philly Roaring Riot member texted me the news as soon as it broke. I absolutely froze and stopped my buggy and started searching hoping it was just a BS rumor but obviously that wasn't the case. For some reason I felt the need to tell others and everyone was equally as floored and couldn't believe it. Honestly, it was such a shock it almost made me feel nauseous. I went from pissed at something as dumb as just being at Walmart to being reminded that this life ends at a blind of an eye. RIP Kobe, his daughter and the rest of the deceased. Just a sad day all around.

He was the last NBA guy I really loved watching. I was born in LA and grew up a Lakers fan. Him and Shaq were so much fun to watch. I had friends that were fans of other teams and hated the Lakers the way people have been hating the Patriots.

Seeing his career all the way through and watching him leave like he did still on top of the game was great to watch.

But I have to admit watching him coach Gigi's team was a lot of fun to watch as well because you got to see him like the rest of us...just a normal guy and a dad involved in his daughter's life.

Just sad to see them both gone. So weird. Watched him and Gigi on YouTube with my own daughter. Hate it as a fan, but I hate it even more for that family and friends.

And screw TMZ and others for busting out that news before family of all the victims of that tragedy could be reached. I hope they get sued.

Umm...you can't leave us hanging like that...?

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
