What is Olsen waiting for?

If he was as positive as you all are that this is going to be a complete five-year re-build wouldn't he have hung it up already?

Waiting on the Cam decision, seems pretty obvious based on what he said end of the year, he was still creating separation and getting open, just didn't have a QB that could deliver consistently.

I'm pretty sure most of the vets like an Irvin, McCoy, Olsen. Boston want a guy like Cam under center and not a unproven potentially over-hyped rookie, or a return to Allen or Grier.

New league year. So they can either move him or he retires. Are you really that dumb or just trying to make a scene? Luke did his before because he can genuinely claim medical that absolves him from anything legal from the panthers.

This simply shows Hurney hasn’t pulled the trigger on Greg and may still try to trade him for something. Which knowing Greg is a very likely scenario.

Well he may still love the game and want to play and prove that he has some left in the tank, and further his case for the HoF. I don’t think there is even a guarantee that if he plays it’ll be here. The booth will always be there for him. No need to rush into it. Cam or if we draft a QB this year certainly plays into it to some degree.

Antonio Gates just retired. That would put Antonio in direct HoF competition in their first eligible year if Olsen also retired. That's two dominant TEs, not good for either's chances of making it.

Since he didn’t play last year I believe Gates is eligible 4 years from now, not the same as Greg.

Why does he need to make a decision now?

Yep, why the rush? I'm guessing he's got some curiosity about what this staff is going to do, how the personnel looks once FA starts and the draft happens, and also there is the Cam factor.

If Cam stays and is in good shape, he might stick it out another year. But conditions would probably have to be pretty ideal for him to want to stay.

He's in a place where he can leave if he wants and walk into another big and lucrative career and he knows it's there waiting for him.

Pretty good place to be in life and he's got time to make it. Not much he can do right now with either one anyways so he can comfortably sit and wait.

Perhaps we weren't as bad in 2019, as a roster, as most fans think. Olsen believes that with Cam back and a transition back to the 4-3 (if that's what's happening) we will make a quick turnaround?

P.S. if we switch to a 4-3 where does that leave Burns? Unless he puts on 50 lbs he may be close to useless as a 3 down end.

Interesting point.

Also holy crap, Gates was still playing? Wasn’t he in Brett Favre’s rookie class?

There is this misnomer that Burns doesn't fit in a 4-3 .. but he does.

50 lbs. of muscle he needs to add? Right now he's listed 6'5 250 lb.

Will probably add 10 lb. this off-season just because he's 21 and is still growing. 260 is heavy enough.

Aldon Smith.

6'5, 300 lbs is a nose tackle or offensive guard, not interested in offensive guard Brian Burns

Burns can still be an effective 3rd down pass rusher in any scheme. His lean frame means he will probably never be a run stopper and it sucks that the Panthers spent a 1st round draft pick on a player that can't play every down, but it's too late to change that now.

On the original topic, Greg is most definitely waiting to see what happens with Cam. I don't think Greg wants to leave Cam hanging if the team decides to give him one more go of it.

    • Only thing I really see it doing is possibly making Tepper listen if a different play caller can't run the offense because of limitations. New hire, someone who hasn't been watching Bryce for the past 3 years up close may be able to talk some sense if he sees that he isn't able to get the job done.

    • Not sure there is anything that will do that outside of Young actually being a legit top 12 QB. Where he won’t need excuses made for him.  It is just as likely to multiply them.
