What Greg Olsen’s departure means for Cam

Now that we know Greg Olsen and the Panthers are parting ways, what does that mean for Cam’s future with the team?

On Instagram, Olsen posted a long goodbye letter and mentioned he and Marty Hurney had a long conversation and it was clear it was best to part ways.

What was said in that conversation?

Cam would not be a part of the plans next season?

The Panthers are planning to suck for a few seasons?

Whatever it is, the plans clearly aren’t a fit for Greg. And that might mean Cam isn’t in the plans either.

I honestly doubt there's any connection at all. Cam wants to be a Panther. It was clear that Olsen was heavily leaning toward hanging up the cleats after Kobe's death. He may not be 100% there in terms of that decision and may want to see what his football options are, but unless a legit top SB contender comes calling I suspect he'll retire here in a few months and he'll be working football from behind a broadcasting desk this coming fall.

lol people are in denial.

If you can't see by now we are rebuilding I don't know what else to tell you. Tepper said back in December we will be rebuilding for the long term. Luke retires, Greg parted ways, what does that tell you?

The players know we are headed for a rebuild. I expect Cam to probably have a sit down pretty soon and find out the direction of the franchise. Our roster is not going to be able to compete for the next few years. No need to waste Cam's last few years on a rebuilding team.

Time to start speculating on his next destination.

We can make all these moves and still keep Cam. Yes he is in his 30s but he is not quarterback old. Olsen and Cam are not mutually exclusive.

You tell me why does it make sense to keep a 31 year old QB with serious health concerns moving forward on a rebuilding team?

Cam is at a point in his career he needs to be on a contender. Let the man go he gave his all to the franchise. We broke him physically. At least let him have the option to choose his next team.

This has no bearing on whether Cam plays for the Panthers or not next season.  If Cam is healthy it is in the best interest of the team to see if he can still play at an elite level.  It is in Cams best interest to show that he can still play at an elite level in a contract year.

People beating the drum about being player specific fans but are expecting Cam to dip because luke and olsen are gone is pretty hypocritical.

if you’re a panther fan you’re a fan of the franchise, if you want to be a panther that’s wanting to be apart of the franchise, not hitch your career on to others

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
