KK Short

He isn't very tradable. He also isn't worth the contract. The restructure was stupid, mind numbingly dumb.

If we are going back to 4-3, I wouldn't mind putting Buttler on a prove it deal. He did produce last year, pass rush not run stoping obviously.

This isn't a hole we are digging out of in one offseason. Play KK another year and see if we can/should cut bait next offseason. Same with Paradis.

Hurney didn’t sign KK to the contract extension.  Gettleman did.

Bingo. Before Gettleman was fired, he had plans of signing hog mollies like KK & Trai Turner long term & release old fan favs like TD & Greg Olsen. He gave KK a long contract Feb '17. Richardson did not like the idea so he fired him weeks before '17 training camp. Hurney finished the contract extension with Turner.

Has it worked so far? So far, nada. They both had nice '17 seasons but since then, not so much.

I don't think it's fair to say that KK is garbage.  He was injured last year and that's more concerning.  The reality is, there was a huge drop off in D after KK went down last year.  He's a good player.  Is he worth his contract?  Probably not.

Trading him really hinges on the question of how bad we want to tank.  The reality is that a DLine made up of KK, D. Brown, Burns, and possibly Addison doesn't sound to bad.  That's if KK can return to form.  If the team actually wants to improve and see if they can be good before they tank next year then keeping KK would be smart.

If Tepper would just prefer to wave the white flag before the season even starts then that's another story.  We do have a lot of holes to fill but Dline could mask a lot of our weaknesses in the secondary.  It's quite honestly why I don't want to draft Okudah.  If our Dline is horrible that cat will get burned no matter how good he is.

Surprised people haven't talked about trying to trade Short. He is 31 and is not going to be apart of a rebuild. He is still a top 10-12 DT in the league. I heard on the radio today that we should look to trade him and I completely agree. I understand his contract is way too expensive and Hurney screwed us yet again, but could we get a mid round draft pick for him?

I agree too, but he played poorly in 2018 and 2019 was IR. 2 years of non-performance for whatever reason (as we are seeing with Cam) is an eternity.

I agree though--but if we trade KK and Poe, we have zero DTs but tons of cap.  I would pull the trigger---KK has not been KK since Star left.

Why Im saying we should trade him before the year starts. Do you not think we could get anything for him?

I do not see a trade--bad contract, poor recent performance history--the first word of free agency is free--you can sign a DT on the same deal without surrendering a draft pick.

I think we are going to have to keep him--but if we could get a fourth or fifth rounder for him and lose that contract, I would take it.

People who blame KK or for the contract he got are idiots. He played very well. The combination of no Star, Butler being crap and Washington as the DC all lead to the drop off and then last year being injured. He's still got. maybe not to the true value of the contract but if we let him walk 2 or 3 years ago, everybody would have been crying. Most big contracts are not worth it in the long run. He's a great players, he can still be dominant and a great locker room presence.

I would keep him for several reasons but one being the cap hit is not worth it and he could help a developing team get to the next level. He's also a great guy and I know this personally.

Hurney signed KK to what his market value based on his production to that point in time was. It's purely coincedental that following that deal KK fell off of a cliff. There is no way to predict that. I dislike Hurney as much as the next fan but this is on KK, biology, nature, or whatever else; but it's not on Hurney. If KK played how he did before the deal was inked, it would've been a bargain deal three years on.

    • I went to Canes games back in '04 & '05 when you were probably still a swimmer waiting to make your dad a father. There was no one there bc they sucked. Some of the lowest attendance in the NHL. As a Panthers fan coming off a SB season (03-04), I couldn't even believe they put a hockey team in Raleigh, and given the attendance, a lot of people speculated they would be relocated somewhere back up north where they would be supported and not "Mayberry." Seriously, educate youself.  That is reality. That being said, comparing that environment to 2024 Canes would be disingenuous. I was at PNC last year and know how great the current environment is. Comparing the current environment at BOA to 10 years ago is just as disingenuous.  Just bc you didn't witness how good BOA is when the Panthers are actually decent doesn't change reality. Seriously, surely you see that coming from such an elitist environment like the globally renowned world-class city of Raleigh, NC... I guarantee you if you went to a Canes game and a Panthers game in 2005, the difference would be unreal bc the Panthers were awesome and the Canes were (at the time) a moribund franchise. I have been in BOA when the whole stadium was rocking. You simply are young, don't know what you're talking about, but want to portray yourself as having knowledge about things you simply don't. You have a lot in common with modern day politicians and televangelists Like I said, Idiocracy has prevailed... Have a great day too!
    • Let it all out bro.   At the end of the day Charlotte fans just aren't that passionate as other fans. The Panthers and Hornets crowds are wack.    Go to a Canes game and you will understand this. Tell the family I said hi and Happy Father's Day.
    • Dude you have no idea what you're talking about. Best place to live?  LMAO... that's your criteria...  Charlotte gets put all over those lists too... come on man... and those lists have zero to do with sports. I'm done after this bc I'm punching down intellectually here... The Panthers have been bad for 6 years now. You are obviously young and not overly educated based off the "dunks" you're putting out there that certainly are, so let me educate you today on the Panthers. The Panthers sold out for well over a decade straight. BOA has been as good an environment as there is when the team is good.  Fan support for the Panthers has been incredible when the team has even remotely reciprocated. The idea that Charlotte doesn't support the Panthers is utter BS. People in Raleigh have the biggest little brother syndrome of all time... Nobody outside of the Triangle cares about any of your "vaunted" sports team outside of Duke-UNC in basketball on a national scale. Sure, the Canes are great. But nationally, the WWE dwarfs the NHL in ratings. More people care about Cody Rhodes than Sebastian Aho... or anyone else in the NHL for that matter... I doubt less than 5% of anyone in this state outside of Raleigh even knows who that is... that's a knock on Aho who is a great player, it's just the NHL barely makes a ripple in the overall hierarchy of American sports. It's not in the same universe as the NFL or NBA no matter how badly you want to tell yourself otherwise. Raleigh is not a big-time sports city, no matter how much you want to scream into the abyss about it. Neither is Charlotte. But no one here is making such a nonsense argument... LOL it's good to be young and to be ignorant enough to be confidently wrong... WTF are you even on this board though since Charlotte is so beneath you? There is an actual discussion board on this very site for Raleigh sports since they are so superior...  Maybe it's bc I'm watching Idiocracy with my son, but your timing is perfect, my man... The dumbest among us have become the most confidence in their ignorance... God Bless America!!
