What should be the primary focus in the draft? Both need work both have top tier talent in the first 2 days but do we go heavy on one and free agency for the other. Or do we take the route we have been the past few years and mix and match hoping someone sticks. I just feel we need to start over young on one side of the ball and the line is the best place to start.

I'm leaning toward D-line, particularly DT in this draft. We have got to get someone who can clog the middle, clear lanes for our LBs and demand double teams (or just do the ol' grab two of 'em by the collar Brentson Buckner technique).

Our defense was second in the league in sacks and at the bottom in run defense. We had a bunch of sack specialists who just couldn't tackle anyone who wasn't a QB. It sounds good on Madden, but it just killed us time and time again. It got to be downright embarrassing to watch us celebrate a sack and then give up a 30-yard rush up the middle while sack dancers were just standing around with their thumbs up their butts.

Im going OL as well because

1. Im more confident in getting a rd 2 impact DT than I am a OT there.

2. The Strength of the OT class at the top.  Brown and Kinlaw are Studs, but there Stud DTs in every class.  While OTs not so much, and this is the best OT crop in at least 5 yrs in scouts eyes.

3. The Offense.  Joe Brady's offense relys on the 5 OL being able to block and hold up with no help.  That means no Manhurtz to help this pitiful OL like he has the last 5 years.

We do not have a Left Guard on the roster, so that will be a target in the draft, I'm sure.  What round, I don't know.

Dennis Daley has LG skills. With the panthers needs high at many spots, I bet hes every shot at starting LG.

Has to be O-Line. Rushing the QB is great but the route to sustained success is consistently good QB play. That's only achieved when you protect the QB. I've also mentioned before that O-line plays virtually all of the snaps whereas D-Line usually play half of the snaps. More snaps = more impact. High pedigree O-Line first and then taking D-Line who are top level athletes (Grady Jarrett, Maxx Crosby, Danielle Hunter) and coaching them up.

Here is the reality of the situation.  No longer do we have 2 rookies and a recovering veteran playing offensive line.  Depending on Little's concussion situation, he is the starting LT.  Daley got some valuable experience last season; do not think we have 2 gaps at LT and LG--

Had there been no injuries last season, it is likely that Daley could have taken the LG job--had he not been forced to LT.  A sixth round draft pick playing LT--not ideal, but that is VALUABLE experience. So if they think they have already planted the seeds on the left side of the Oline, and all they have at DT is 31-year old underachiever on the other side of the ball.   We need some young blood there.

It is remarkable to me that many seem to be ignoring MLB.  The draft should have some depth at DT through the second round, but the first round has basically 2 MLBs worthy of the job.  Putting Thompson in his best position and not MLB is critically important.  Simmons is the pick.

DT in the second round.

I am not sure we do much on day 1 or 2 on the offense--unless we draft a QB.  Maybe a WR in round 3.

      I was playing around with the ESPN playoff predictor and it shows if 49ers and Rams finish with same record, the Rams hold the tiebreaker.

      This is my thinking as well. Seattle played as good as they could on defense and Panthers still had a chance until those back to back turnovers.  I don't think the Rams played particularly well in their game against us, alot things went our way in order to win.  Someone pointed out the Rams were bad on the east coast road games and Seattle has been the better road team but they just fought a hard contested game against the Panthers, and now they travel to San Fran this week for their biggest game of the season to determine the division and if they are the overall #1 seed in the NFC or will be traveling for the Wildcard weekend.  If they lose they then travel back cross the country to play a team they've just beaten two weeks ago, not saying they won't be favored against the Panthers but the energy of hosting our first playoff game in 10 years along with the get back effect of having just lost to this team could be huge.
