Okung, and Turner Tape

In regards to the run block Turner has in this video....Turner didn't have to do much of anything. The DT was crashing to his inside, giving Turner the leverage. He just used his momentum to carry him on that way.

Same with the Okung block. He just had to not let him rip under him, and any high school lineman can do the same. Be a wall for a second.

Turner's pass blocking on the sack he broke down was indicative of much of Turner's season. Even when he didn't give up a sack, he was giving up pressures with that exact lack of footwork. Turner in the run game is still pretty good, but his pass pro was subpar. That's why we wanted to move him. Most pro linemen can run block well, but pass protection is always telling of footwork, when you're having to prevent being moved rather than trying to move somebody. That's because pro linemen are strong enough to move, not necessarily technique savvy in their footwork to not be moved. That's why it matters.

In Turner's defense, the whole OL looked pretty bad so it's not just picking on him. Hopefully they get that part of the offense corrected.

The one crucial point he failed to mention is the fact that while yes Trai is significantly younger, LT >>>>> RG in terms of positional value.

This.

There  was talk on sports radio yesterday that this is some of the analytics starting to come into play. Analytics is not just when to go for it on fourth down.  But what positions are statistically more value than others.  And with that you pay LT’s not RG’s who want another longterm big money contract.

They also mentioned that it seems this is much more of a Rhule and coaching staff/ analytics decision than Marty deal.  Marty is fully engaged with the draft right now.  They were speculating that Rhule and Meyer with the help of Sulimani pulled the trigger on this.  Who knows for sure.  But I sure hope Rhule has a heavy hand in these types of things over Marty.

RG is probably the least valued position along an oline as well

The fact he couldn't even keep the Center from facing two players last year is all you need to know. He was considered a leader under Rivera and honestly his work ethic didn't really leave much to be impressed with for people to really follow behind. I think we got a good deal in just not having his contract on the books.

It doesn't make sense in the modern NFL to have a big contract on an OG, especially for a player that wasn't playing at an elite level last year.

Does his work ethic at the dinner table count? Because he looked like his work ethic with fork in hand was quite strong.

That's called cap relief after this bridge season to either Little, or future prospect. Eat the dead now while we can since Turner still had a year and still has dead money and just a 6M savings if cut next year.

Okung will open up 13M whether we cut him now or he falls off after next season. I'd I remember the details correctly.

    • The new (released today) FOX ONE app will allow you access to watch your Local FOX Station - similar to how the Paramount Plus app allows you access to watch your local CBS station It'll cost you $20/month for the privilege, but if you're having trouble accessing the over-the-air antenna for FOX, this could be an option to consider the new ESPN app will give you access to ESPN content, but not to the local ABC affiliate. A reminder: if you currently get ESPN via some TV provider (cable, satellite, youtube, etc) then you should be able to use the new ESPN app via your provider login, no additional payment required
    • Not even close!!! BURNS was a one trick pony who had a big game or two a year in the sack collum and was invinsible the rest of the time....   Heck hes gonna be the Giants fourth best rusher this year.
    • XL went to one of the worst teams in the NFL.  One that features a weak passing O and bad overall QB play on the season.   XL is getting way too much hate IMO.   He had an okay rookie season all things considered.   Very much on par w/ prospects that projected around the same area with him.   Panthers made a 2nd rounder a first round technicality for that contract.  XL also getting this weird kicker type blame for games.  XL somehow single handedly lost us games on one play.....and then we ignore the rest of the team that went about losing the game for 4 quarters.   Should he of caught the Philly ball? 100%.  The O and D still played like garbage that entire game.  Even after the drop, Panthers had two shots starting w/ a 3rd and 4 to convert.  They kept playing bad instead.  And even if we XL made the play....Philly would have had a minute and half to get into FG range to win it.  Who is banking on the Panther D getting that stop?  also, I am deemed Mr. Negative, yet here I am defending a no good dirty Gamecock lol
