Strongside end?

Help me out here.

Who do we have on the roster to play LDE, or strongside end?

We have several guys that can be on the right, or play on passing downs and rush the QB, but who is that strong side end that will be in on first down and running downs? That 280lb guy who is stout against the run and still can get some occasional pressure on the QB.

Is there anyone left in free agency?

What are our options in the draft?  Draft actually seems weak in that regard.

Looks like Weatherly and Obada will be On the strong side.  Burns Miller on weak side.  But they way this offseason is going who actually knows.

I totally forgot about Obada. I think he will be great with an extended role in the 4-3.

That would be awesome, but I think he's currently trending more toward being Ryan Delaire version 2.0. Shows early promise but then a lot of nothing afterward.

I said the Ryan Delaire thing 2 years ago when ppl were going overboard on Obada..

One of the good things about a new coaching staff is that it's a fresh look at your entire roster.  If Obada is actually good, he'll stick.  If not, he'll go.  The staff has no attachment to him.  Pretty sure that's why Colin Jones walked tbh.

Ryan Delaire take made sense 2yrs ago due to overhype, but Obada is the DL version of Shaq at this pt.

All he has done is play all over the line and done his job. He has been lined up inside, outside, standing, hand in the dirt, whatever and wherever.

Give him consistent snaps at a consistent position. He might not be All Pro, but the dude does make splash plays.

He got swallowed up in the run game.  I am not sure he can add 20 lbs and be as quick

His rookie year??

How many rookie DE come in to the league and our stout against the run.. Most Rookies aren't strong against the run.. They are facing grown men with no technical advantages.. Give it more then 1 year ...

And he was 250lb last year on a 6'5 frame..

Kalil Mack was smaller on a smaller frame

Now he is 269lb

Why is this impossible??

It won't be just adding muscle which most rookies do. Plus he was always rushing the passer with an outside speed rush which often takes you out of the play especially on a run play. We put so.much emphasis on rushing the passer we were fundamentally unsound in our gap control and run fits.

    • I consider last year Bryce's rookie year.....and I expect some regression/D adjustment in his second season in Canales' O.  Film is film.   So yeah, I agree....he won't be the dude that opened up the year week 1 or closed the door week 17.  We will get some dude in between it all most likely.  Which IMO puts us in a really awkward no man's land with Bryce.
    • The question is which Bryce shows up game 1. Do we get week 2 (2024) Bryce, or week 18 (2024) Bryce?  I will say that his progression after the benching last year was amazing. He literally got better every game - sans Dallas. Like every week he did something we hadn't seen him do before. And it wasn't luck, toss it up for grabs plays like Penix did against Carolina. Penix was just throwing the ball as hard as he could in the direction of a receiver and hoping they'd make a play for him. What we saw from Bryce was different. Decision making, reading defenses, recognizing blitzes and where they were coming from, knowing his hot, avoiding pressure and manipulating the pocket, throwing with anticipation, taking shots downfield, and running the ball surprisingly well. Stats don't always tell the story. Did he miss some throws that he should have made - sure did. But the clutch gene is strong with this one. One score game and Carolina has the ball with 2 minutes on the clock - I'm confident he'll give them a chance to win more than he doesn't.
    • I really like David Moore. He's a reliable WR. Smart, doesn't drop the ball and he's where he's supposed to be. Now, he ain't gonna route up a DB. He ain't gonna 50/50 ball a DB. He ain't gonna run by a DB either. But he runs a good enough route and catches the ball - definitely an NFL average WR. Every team could use a David Moore. Now if this receiving group can force Dan and Dave to let him go, then this team has come a long way since 2023. A LONG way. But I will say that Horn's speed is a big deal. They don't really have another guy with speed and quickness to blow the top off the defense and make guys miss in space after the catch, though he is still a rookie and hasn't done it in the NFL. If he and Renfrow push Moore out, then we might actually have something gents. Plus I see Renfrow as Thielen's replacement in 2026. I just don't think Coker is the reliable, move the chains guy like Thielen. Could be wrong.
