Round 6 Pick 184: Carolina Panthers select DT Bravvion Roy

Can't be mad about this at all.

Like others have said, at this point in the draft, you're tossing darts. Why not toss one at a guy that you coached and your DC coached. Those are the kind of day 3 picks that turn into very good starters in this league....right system, right fit.

He will rotate for a few years and be a great depth contributor.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, if the Panthers use their seventh-round pick (221) on a defensive player it would be the most by any team in the common draft era to be made all on defense. It would tie the most picks by a team all on one side of the ball over that span. The 1985 Browns made seven picks on offense.

Bravvion Roy played under Matt Rhule at Baylor, and now he'll play for him with the Panthers. The last time a player was drafted by his collegiate head coach was in 2010, when Pete Carroll took USC TE Anthony McCoy.

Look at the size of those arms compared to Matt Rhule's who is no small guy by any measure.

Bottom Line on Bravvion Roy

Bravvion Roy is one of the more interesting defensive tackles in the class. While most defensive tackles win primarily through their bull rush, Roy uses that almost as a secondary move. Most of his sacks come from when he uses his surprisingly-effective spin move and quickness to get around his man.

With only one season of strong production as an unorthodox pass rusher, there is some concern about his ability to do it at the NFL level. However, what’s not up for dispute is his ability to hold his own in the trenches and positively impact the running game. ,

Roy can stand strong against blockers and clog up rushing lanes. This trait isn’t as valuable in today’s NFL, but he should stick around for a few seasons as a rotational nose tackle.
