On a level of playing at the highest level consistently it’s Luke hands down. Yeah Cam won the MVP, but we don’t go to the Super Bowl if Luke’s not on the team. Honestly it’s a toss up. They’re all Panther greats regardless. I miss the behind the scenes leadership Pep brought and the on field attitude Smitty had.

We’ll never see anyone in a Panthers uni come close to those guys anytime soon.

Luke was a great player

CMC is a great player

PROBABLE HOF

Pep, great player
SmIttY  great player and f**ed up teammate

however

the person who won the games, the person who made the Panthers national, was Newton.

disgraceful he was not on this list  disgraceful

How do you leave off the best QB in franchise history and the only Panthers player to win MVP in the GOAT debate?

How you do it is, intentionally.

Cam clearly pissed Tepper off in a major way, must have really gone off the base there at the end.  Tepper cancelled him.

more like its a really bad look for fans to vote Cam as the best player in franchise history when they unceremoniously dumped him on his ass and paid a shittier version of him more money

I can really only think of one thing Teddy and Cam have in common as QBs...be careful outing yourself there buddy.

Luke Kuechly, for his career, had 1.33 more tackles per game than Jon Beason.

Luke Kuechly, for his career, had .045 more interceptions per game than Jon Beason.

Luke Kuechly, for his career, had .027 more forced fumbles per game than Jon Beason.

Luke Kuechly, for his career, had .062 more sacks per game than Jon Beason.

So, tell me again how Luke Kuechly is so much more better than Jon Beason.

Fun fact: Luke Kuechly averaged 2.5x as many sacks per game as Beason!!! (Which is actually true)

Am I doing this right? Statistics are fun without context.

I have to seriously question the motives of anyone picking Luke over Smitty first and foremost, and even Pep to an extent.

I'm not surprised, given our fan base still has a lot of holdover fans of a certain type.

Luke was great, yes. The Panthers GOAT? Laughable.

Dan Morgan and Jon Beason were great, too. Beason maybe even approached Luke level great.

None of them were on Smitty or Pep's level.

Teams FEARED Smitty and Pep.

Smitty is the greatest WR in the history of the NFL. Pep is likely the greatest DE in the history of the NFL. Luke is maybe a top 5 MLB of all time.

But while people praise Luke for his arguably brief career and numerous accolades (all of which he earned and deserves) they sure are quick to write off Smitty and Pep for things like locker room drama or "having heart" or whatever nonsense they can come up with.

I've even seen Pep's masculinity and sexuality questioned on these forums over the years. Same with Cam.

I wonder why that only occurs with certain players?

The greatest WR in the history of the NFL?

That whole paragraph is delusional and wrong.  Smitty Pep and Luke were all great players.  Cam is my favorite Panther of all time, but Smith is the goat.

Cam overall was probably the most impactful player the panthers have ever had, some of that is because of just how important the QB position is.

If you look at it in terms of just how many seasons was each player the very best in the league, Peppers and Kuechly probably win. Both were the #1 player at their respective position for several years. Cam was the best QB in the NFL for one season. Sure, top 5 some other seasons, but only the best for one.

Yeah, Teddy and Cam don’t compare.  Like at all.     Polar opposites in terms of play style.  Cam has no legit comparable in NFL history.  Would have to take like 3 players and cherry pick parts of their game.

Vick meets Jerome Bettie meets Brett Favre (that was probably poorly done but just throwing an example out)

    • I would say that seems like an odd comment from Morgan, but at the same time it's almost impossible to find a college QB declaring for the draft to have less physical ability than BY so you can assume almost anyone you bring in would be your go to QB sneak/designed run guy.
    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
