Not sure if you guys read the post on page 9 or his twitter....but he’s not retiring.

/thread.

Lol lock the thread admins

If you read the article, all it says that he would be comfortable walking away if he felt it wasn't safe.  That is not the same as mulling retirement

i'm not gonna do your research for you but there have been stories written about marty getting hard ons for players and selecting them exactly against the advice of the other involved parties.  i hope part of the situation under tepper is he no longer has that power.

Doing my research???? Do your own. You just spread the rumor, now pictures or articles or it didn't happen...

Seems you are just making things up you cant verify.

i'm not looking stuff up for people making up stuff.   you can if you want.   and if you want to believe foxy wanted jimmy claussen you are free to do that.  armanti edwards, eric shelton, i could go on and on, but given the web anyone can do it.  i hope marty no longer has final say.

Doesn't change how stupid the trade was.

Sure it does. After watching last seasons line, LT was the main issue and was a revolving door. It gives us a one year stop gap who is proven to be above average at covering the qbs blind side all while dumping Turners contract. The panthers are open to possibly signing him longer based off how he performs this season. It is much easier to find a decent guard over a LT. I would have rather had draft picks but not at the expense of watching our QB get demolished after half a second of every snap. Time will tell how the trade worked out, but if he starts all season and plays at a decent level I won’t consider it a Stupid trade.

How did the Panthers clear salary with that trade? Was it the 9.6M dead cap hit? Was it Okungs higher salary? What benefit was there to trading an asset for an 5 years older player with health concerns well before the pandemic.

Would we not save next year/ possibly this year if he did retire? Although I love the Panthers and NFL, I am a hockey fan first and foremost and the salary structures are pretty different with guaranteed contracts, etc and I am not as nuanced with my understanding.

“Retirement is nowhere near imminent. And it’s not being used as a ploy to get a new contract; that will take care of itself at the appropriate time, and we’re on the same page with the Panthers in that regard. . . In uncertain times, players have to keep all their options open, but for as long as it makes medical sense for Russ and his health, again, he’s completely committed to the Panthers.” There is no indication there won't be issues with Covid this season which could change this situation quickly. So how much would it take for Okung to retire if there was an outbreak at camp? This is still an open issue any way you look at it, unless you are still going the complete denial route. And let me go on record that I completely understand and back him 100 % especially with his health history if he did go that route.

For all of those that hated this trade as much as I did, just look on the bright side. We didn't do this trade and then give him a multi year contract so I guess it could be a lot worse.

Honestly, the reason I hate this trade so much is it is just a reminder of what we could have had instead of Little. Hurney had a 1st round grade on him and we still had to get Okung. We had to rely on 2 guys off major injury in Williams and Paradis, and skipped drafting our center for the future in McCoy and could have taken Deiter with our 3rd if we wanted a guard. It's not even like this stuff was hard to predict. It's just disappointing. Okung didn't get a multi-year which is good, but the fact we had to get him at all just makes me question Hurney's player valuation even more.

    • My point exactly. Does that mean they have a poor offense? Of course not. That is why cherry picking stats without context rarely results in an accurate and fair assessment.
    • Lotta football to go, and a lot of things can change.  Team health makes a huge difference down the road.  The big thing is and will be getting a rhythm.  2015 and 2013 are great examples.  That said, while we have a schedule, we dont really know who we're gonna play past a few weeks from now and by that I mean, like, end of october we're scheduled to play The Buffalo Bills...but between now and then, what if theres an injury to Josh Allen or just suffer a rash of injuries to any position group really.  Lots can change honestly and after 3 weeks, we're healthier than we were last year after week 3 with our only serious injuries to Hunt and Corbett (who...sorry the guy got injured, but Mays continues to outplay him).  the other injuries are short term return situations with JT Sanders, XL, and Coker.
    • I get a lot more than you. Scheme dictates average yards per play for example. If you run a lot like Philly your average yards per play will go down versus a team that passes all the time. And if you only play 3 games  then one outlier like Jacksonville holds more weight than it should. Plus yards per play doesn't correlate to wins for example versus effectiveness in the red zone. So yeah I get it and know that stats like yards per game much like yards per play have little correlation with wins and loses and the final score is the only thing that matters at the end of the day not some BS cherry picked stat.
