Dan Morgan

Will he be included in the Hall of Honor?

You love him or hate him but when he played, he played hard.  My most memorable moment with Dan was when my son, a Marine, was home on leave and I took him to a game.  Dan owned Cheeze Moes at the time.  I took my son to eat there.  The place had closed earlier because of a water leak.  I said to the staff that I had brought my son from the mountains for a game and a pizza.  They told me to go up the street where Dan was helping dig the water line, yes he was in the hole digging.  I introduced my son and spoke for a moment about the situation.  He said to go back down and he would see we got served.

Because the ovens were still hot they cooked us a 'Dan Morgan' special and some served us some beers.  Dan came down and sat and talked with us.  He wouldn't let me pay.  The wait staff got a very good tip.  My son mentions that moment often.

The injuries were unfortunate and without them, it's certainly possible he would have been good enough to be deserving, but as it stands I don't see how you can put him in our Hall of Honor without diluting it.  In the grand scheme of things he didn't accomplish a whole lot, with only one All-Pro/Pro-Bowl season and never starting a full 16-game season.  I don't think he's got a chance.

Plus there's at least 2 linebackers ahead of him in the waiting list (Kuechly and Davis both belong), and I think Beason would be more deserving than Morgan too, although I wouldn't put Beason in either.  Hall of Honor should be for guys who made a long-lasting, memorable impact on the team and I don't think that applies to Morgan.

I understand that and agree.  He was a good person deep down.  You have to set parameters.

Dunno. Would be difficult to include him when he is working for the Buffalo Bills, no?

I didn't think he was still with the Bills??  Shouldn't matter whether they work for another team or not.  It's relative to their stay with the Panthers.

I had the pleasure of waiting on Dan and his wife several times at a steakhouse in Pineville early 2000's. They were always the most humble down to earth people and you would never have known by their behavior that Dan was a professional athlete or famous in any way.  Awesome story and unsurprising from my limited experience interacting with him except that you have to be blown away by a pro bowl caliber linebacker helping to actually dig the hole to fix a water line to his restaurant. Now that's a man worthy of Sam Mill's legacy.

I don't think that would matter, but I also don't think dan did enough as a panther, especially compared to Luke or TD. Only really had 4 seasons worth of games total.

I've never watched the 2003 superbowl again (or 2015 for that matter) but he would have been MVP of that game if Carolina had pulled it out :/

Hall of Honor . . . unfortunately not.  His on field accomplishments just aren't enough.

As a person, he should be in the Hall of Fame.  He is right up there with any Panther to ever wear the uniform in terms of being a complete class act as a person.  I would love to see him come home to a front office position with the Panthers and stay.

    • Technically speaking, Fields has been a better QB than Bryce Young in the NFL.  I mean it’s bottom rung comparing by BY isn’t better.  Thats what I don’t get about the talk this week.  We don’t have a QB edge
    • Might be different against a team with no legitimate pass catching options outside of their rookie TE though.  Their #1 WR tomorrow has 8 catches this season, next best WR receptions number this year is 4. If we can't defend that while Horn travels with their TE, then we have some serious problems.   Maybe we don't end up doing that in the end, but it's probably how I'd be scheming up the defense tomorrow when they have only 1 non RB pass catching option.
    • I fought sleep to stay awake just to watch that fumble on the goal line as we were going in for the go ahead score and said fug it, I'm going to bed. I've seen this movie before. I know how this ends. This bullshit of having California teams in conference with east coast teams is trash. That game probably didn't end until 2:30AM. Hell, it was 2AM at the time of the fumble and there was still 3+ minutes to play. In conference games being played into the 2AM hour for local audiences is terrible for the game. And the worst rule in football really does need fixed. Fumbling through the endzone or a fumble recovers by the D in the end zone should not result in a touch back and the ball on the 20. Fumbling through the endzone should not be a turnover. Fumbling out of bounds isn't a turnover anywhere else on the field. That should be the offense's ball on the one yard line. If the D recovers it in the endzone it should be the D's ball on the one yard line. Everyone knows this and everyone talks about it so just fix it already. If Cal was getting the ball at the goal line instead of out to the 20 I would've kept watching. That's a completely different scenario than the ball at the 20.
