Job Offer In Charleston, SC

Dex

Recommended Posts

After months of being unemployed due to COVID I've finally received two job offers. One is in Connecticut where I'm currently living for an above average salary. The latter is in Charleston, SC in the Mt. Pleasant area for about 10% less than the Connecticut job salary. I've always thought about moving to the Carolinas and this could be a real opportunity to start somewhere anew. But I've got a few questions.

What is a good salary to live within relative comfort in the Charleston area? I have around $1000 in monthly debt (ex. Car Payment, Health and Auto Insurance etc.). I'd like to have a 1 to 2 bedroom apartment if my budget could stretch it and would prefer to be in the city but that's not a requirement.

Anything i should be aware of moving down from Yankeeland?

Whats the current state of the area? Culture? Development?

What is there to do down there?

I appreciate any and all responses.

SC taxes and general cost of living would probably make up the difference in salary.

Lots of historical things in Charleston and interesting architecture and artsy things to do.

Very warm.  Summers might be what is known as "3 shower days"

Laid back culture for the most part.

Driving distance to Panther games!!

Charleston is a decent place to live if you like a slower pace of life compared to a bigger city. I live in Austin and I have a buddy who lives in Charleston that I've visited a few times. If you enjoy going to the beach, eating good BBQ and chilling out, it's a good pace of life. If you want more city amenities, you might want to pass. Compared to Austin, Charleston is too slow and boring for me.

I lived in Charleston in the 80s and thought it was great, even though it was literally the last place I wanted to be sent to by the Navy. It's gotten really crowded over the past couple of decades, and downtown has gotten super expensive, so you probably won't be able to swing that. I enjoyed living on James Island and it's close to downtown. But there are a lot of great things to see and do there. I'm originally from Western Mass and miss the summers up there, but not having to deal with the winters is so much more of a plus I wouldn't consider moving back up north (been in CLT for 25 years). One thing I tell people as a generalization is that up north you tend to have a few close friends, down south you tend to have a lot of buddies.

    • You bring up a good point on the stability part and i would agree that probably will factor into it. But yes, Tepper does have a strong influence on who stays/goes but I still believe ultimately it'is Morgan, Tilis and Canales who will decide.
    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
