Joel Klatt: Justin Fields is just as dangerous as Trevor Lawrence for the NFL.

Luckily, Hurney doesn't have a history of first round trade ups(although has traded to get BACK in the first round before). I think if we get basically any spot in the top 10 you will probably see us stand pat.

As bad as we currently are, I don't even think you could easily justify trading up from #10 into the top 5 for one of those QB's with all our roster needs. We can't Bill O'Brien our future draft picks away and not have major consequences on the rebuild.

Yea, I agree wholeheartedly with this post. If we miss out on the QBs of this draft, then we have to wait until next year and hope it’s ripe with QB prospects. We can’t afford to mortgage our future, giving up high picks. There are some holes on this team that we’ll need our picks for.

But, that is why I’m ok with the losing this year. I just look for improvement from our current team and staff. That’s all I’m looking for

Yeah, ultimately this is about the long game. Shortcuts are just going to end in tears, especially with Hurney at the helm.

I think through two games I am not displeased with the results. Way more competitive with a way worse team than at the end of last season. Let's just hope we keep seeing the fire and the coaches keep getting better.

Honestly, I remember the championship game.  Trevor looked a bit like a deer in the headlights in that game

i mean, everybody can ‘pick a bad day to have a bad day’ but for that high of a pick, I want a winner under  the big lights   Burroughs delivered. Lawrence didn’t

Lawrence is 31-1.   Never lost a regular season game.

3-1 in CFP.  Dominating in 3 of the 4 with a National Championship.

Hard to really frame it that he isn't a winner and doesn't play good in big games.  He has delivered more in college football than Burrow did or anyone else in recent history.

If you're two years into a QB's career and you're still picking at the top of the draft, it might be time to reconsider that QB. Not always, but it's not a good indication.

I agree with this. If Mayfield, Darnold, or Jones are worth keeping around, they should win a few games, pushing them out of contention.

You think all 3 go in the top 10? I figured most of the top of the draft folks have their QB of the future already. But okay, I'll edit it to top 5.

Hmmmmm, now that gets interesting. Still depends on the other 4. Worse case scenario, 3 of them go QB, and you basically have your pick of everyone else. Franchise LT, anyone??

I'm not gonna come down on Lawrence too hard for that game. Yeah, he didn't play well. But LSU just had their number from the word go. They got beat in every facet of football that night.

Clemson D actually had LSU early.  People forget Clemson was up by 10 in the second quarter.   LSU essentially had made one play at that point on offense.

Burrow admitted he couldn't figure the D scheme out.

2nd quarter he just went back to the one play that worked.  Chucking the deep vertical.  Then LSU realized it wasn't luck.  Clemson couldn't cover it.  It was a nightmare from that point on once both teams realized it.  LSU knew it.  Clemson knew it.  Blood in the water. Well, a nightmare for Clemson.  And it was so so so bad...yeah, it erased the memory that Clemson actually game out first and controlled the game early.

at this point it’s reasonable to believe the Panthers are too inept to build an oline

we need to draft a qb most capable of playing in a system with a bottom tier oline...which is going to be hard to find

We had one. The problem is that you're burning the candle at both ends asking a QB to completely carry your offense, both the passing game and the running game. Injuries are gonna be an issue if your QB is your entire offense.

Valid but he didn't the year before against Alabama. He's also 5-1 in conference championship and CFB playoff games in his career. I think that it would be a stretch to say he struggles when the lights are on. I mean, we probably don't need to lose sight of the fact that the kid is 31-1 in his college career so far.

If he really struggled with pressure, I am pretty sure it would have shown itself more than one time.

Don’t disagree but I think that game is probably the most hyped game of his career

what games do people remember, the last one

I’m just not as high on him as others. Burroughs yes, Trevor no.

Considering that our current head coach’s only real stint in the NFL was as an Oline coach and I believe that oline was with the Giants, and they were ranked number 32 during his tenure....

and throw in Hurney

sadly, you are probably right
