Just watched all of KK's snaps to see what we will be missing

Just watched all of KK's snaps against the Falcons. He almost got close to having a couple of QB pressures. But in the run game he was non existent.

Couple of typical plays.

It seems to me at this point Derrick Brown is by far the better player, and anything KK did can be done by any large body in the middle. I am not sure we will see much of a fall off at all.

That’s good to hear

guess we will be paying him millions to do nothing now

In all fairness, cutting him this year would have gained us next to nothing.

Designating him post-June 1 next year however and he "only" counts 6.5 million.

Kawann and Derrick don’t really play the same position. DB is a block eating 1T and KK is a gap shooting 3T. Zack Kerr is the guy that will really need to step up. I imagine we bring Bruce Hector up from the PS to be Kerr’s backup since Roy is also a 1T and I don’t think there is much available in FA although Kyle Love is available I think.

According to the other thread it was still worth it LOL. I’m ok with not getting Lawrence. I knew we weren’t trying, it was obvious, but cutting Short was drop dead obvious and an easy way to build up rolled over cap space and lose basically nothing.

100% wrong. We had $17M in dead cap that was hitting whenever we released him. We added $13M in new salary this year. If we released him we would have had an extra $13M in cap next year that we will not have now.

I posted it a dozen times in the pre season threads. That dead cap could never be reduced and $6M of it counted this year, which is why his cap this year was over $19M even though salary was only $13M.

Ignore the post 6/1 release option which just spreads some money into the next year. If we cut him before this year, 2020 cap hit was $17M (all dead cap) with $0 cap hits after 2020. If we cut him before 2021, 2020 cap hit was $19M and 2021 cap hit was $11M.

By not releasing him, he counts $30M over 2020 and 2021 instead of just $17M. Now that you can rollover cap, we have $13M less to spend on Moton, Moore, Samuel or other future FAs.

They both play both techniques throughout the game. They are used interchangebly.

Kerr has played really well so far. Excited to see what he has to come.

He was thinking about hanging it up after the last injury. This to me is unfortunately the seal on his time in Carolina. Kerr has been a pleasant surprise and we have Obada, Hamilton, and Hector to choose from should the team not bring anyone in.

Gotta feeling this sets up Moton for his contract.

Sometimes when you post, I understand all of the words, but not what it means when you put them in that order. But it’s okay cause you’re a smart guy and I just assume Linville and Verge and Scot and all those guys understand it.  I get the gist.

Probably.

What was the middle part?

Yep...

Retooling, rebuilding, tanking whichever way you wanted to approach this offseason under no circumstance was keeping KK a smart move.

People constantly scratch their heads when it comes to the Saints and their ability to work around the cap. A big reason why they’re able to is that they don’t have a bunch of dead money sitting on their books or useless players like KK on their roster. And no, Brees isn’t there... yet!

    • I’ll get killed for this but he always sounded gay to me. Not necessarily not gay, but feminine.  I tried to say it in a more subtle way and still got killed for it last year. fug it I don’t care it’s an honest opinion. I didn’t let that disqualify him and have been very patient and non critical. I just wondered how the big tough guys in the locker room would respond to that.  But whatever, I think he thinks too much from the emotional side. The rah rah positive deal, what must it sound like if he gets mad? Where is the tough hard ass side? The no empathy, get the job done or get gone. I wonder about that. It mean I doubt there is a lot of fear of failure going on.    So anyway to other comments about he sucks and all that, I said I needed a better reason to change my stance on him, which has been give him time. Continuity is super important.  This thing with the running backs is eroding the goodwill.
    • He has a 54 mil buyout so he will be fine but LSU needs o move on.
    • Sure if you just blindly look at stats, you can pinpoint a couple areas that look similar. But come on man that's lazy analysis. Instead of throwing lower percentage throws, Dalton held onto the ball unconscionably long, leading to several of those sacks including that unthinkable one at the end of the first half, inflating his completion percentage. Bryce for all his flaws, does a pretty good job of escaping pressure and scrambling for 5 yards or throwing it away. Dalton's pocket presence was just so incredibly bad today, which led to both of his lost fumbles. If Bryce would just hold onto the ball and get sacked every 3rd play instead of throw it away or try a contested pass, his completion percentage would be 15 points higher than Dalton's today. And Bryce only had more yardage in 3 of 7 games? You mean when we played run heavy schemes in our wins, instead of Dalton being forced to throw all game cause we're getting blown out?  Look anyone is more than justified in arguing Bryce Young doesn't have the tools to lead this team to a super bowl. But he has been head and shoulders better this year than what Dalton showed today. That was just an abysmal perfomance.
