COVID hits the Patriots once again

Recommended Posts

If they can't play the game by Monday or Tuesday this one will not be able to be rescheduled like the others that have been postponed. Seems like the only 3 options would be

1) add weeks at the end of the season for these makeup games.

2) make the COVID team forfeit

3) cancel the games entirely and go based on W%

NFL has already strongly indicated that they do not want to add extra weeks to the season. I doubt they make a team forfeit, but I honestly do think it would be the most logical decision (and that's not due to Pats disdain, I felt the same about the Titans if it came to that and I actually like that team). NFL's response will be very interesting. Of course, there's still a chance that the Pats-Broncos do play by Monday/Tuesday.

I’m telling you, this way of super strict protocols and freaking out over every little asymptomatic “case” isn’t the proper way to do things. Stop the testing all together, have the older and more at risk staff and coaching members take extra precautions, treat Covid like any other illness in the nfl. Isolate those that don’t feel well and are actually sick. If you are asymptomatic and feel perfectly fine, then play and practice as normal

You can't forfeit if something is out of their control.  These players are going home every night so the virus spread is not contained to team facilities.

It's not completely out of their control. And if a team is unable to be ready to play a scheduled game then it can result in a forfeit, doesn't matter whether it's anyone's fault or out of their control. This is standard in many sports leagues around the world. Unprecedented in the NFL, but this is 2020 and there's a pandemic, it may very well be the best option.

They should really just make the teams play all the rest of their division games in a bubble environment and then the playoffs.

The way you post sure doesn’t make it sound like you are busy enjoying life.

But they can play, the whole team isn't affected but is NFL willing to take the risk of someone not testing positive during the incubation period.

We don't know if they can play. If it winds up like the Titans and they have more and more players testing positive every day they won't be able to play. If it's another situation like before their game against the Chiefs with a player or two testing positive but with several days of consistent negative testing for everyone else before the game then they'll be fine to play by Tuesday probably. It's not really black and white.

    • You don’t even need 1b because Tepper is the only one foolish enough to wheel that deal.    Player wise? Jake’s elbow. JR and Pep getting sideways, no Carruth, Cam’s shoulder, Luke’s concussions, it would be a long list of stuff. You can take it down to certain plays in games. Fox chasing 2 point conversions in the SB would be on my list. RMJr slipping at the end of that same game was not helpful.
    • Ultimately this just amounts to heavy revisionist history. I mean you aren't talking to someone that just popped out the womb a week ago. I was here all throughout the predraft process. The overwhelming majority of the fanbase felt like this was a fine situation and the best situation for a rookie QB to go to compared to Houston for example. The hype for Young and our "rockstar" staff was off the charts. No one could dare speak cautious skepticism of his abilities or they would be neg repped into oblivion. Only after he had one of statistical worst rookie seasons of the last 25 years did we get this narrative now that his rookie season actually shouldn't count. Complete malarkey if you ask me.
    • On the field? Since I guess it qualifies as multiple instances it might not count, but have the damn refs throw some flags on illegal hits to Cam's head in SB50. If that doesn't count, 1A. Cotchery caught it 1B. Kasey keeps that kickoff inbounds. Off the field? 1A. Team is sold to anyone but Tepper 1B. We have the patience not to mortgage the franchise on that Bryce trade. Stroudwpuldve been the better pick but he's not worth it either.
