did hurney torpedo himself with teddy bridgewater?

very curious about the timing here. tepper's comments about having differences in approach - marty with a "traditional" approach and tepper more data-driven - make me wonder if bridgewater himself wasn't a fulcrum for hurney's future one way or another.

could data analytics have suggested bridgewater was going to be forgettable? plenty here will tell you so.

could hurney have chosen teddy as his hill to die on, betting the house on his approach and failing spectacularly?

a mid-season firing like this, as well as tepper's comments, suggest some kind of flash point. i can't help but think that flash point was teddy.

Likely, yes.

Especially with the timing.    Teddy has gotten worse each week and proven he is the same guy everybody thought he was.

I wonder if there are GM candidates that Tepper wants that are already interviewing that he doesn't want to miss a chance on.

You could be right but my understanding was that Joe Brady was the driving force in getting Teddy brought in (i.e. Brady didn't want the job without Teddy).

Not arguing with the decision to move on from Hurney but I personally think it's completely unrelated to Teddy

If so he deserved it. If he kept Cam and got the sack you could at least pity the man who stuck by the QB he drafted till the end but this guy actually went out of his way to find one of the most mediocre QBs to bet his entire management career on. That is some grade A self destruction.

What I said as soon as I saw the news. Tepper could have waited until the Black Monday after the season ended and quietly escorted him out of the building while all the HCs getting fired would have been the distraction.

But, I have to imagine Teddy Take-A-Sack's performance is a major factor in the timing. It also suggests that Tepper showing his emotional investment, too, and he simply got pissed after Saturday night's game.

    • Yeah I think he's just talking continuity it's not really an endorsement. Also I would think CarolinaHuddle of all places would understand using "we" for the team you follow. I can't STAND when dorks do the "Oh so you play for them then? Hurr hurr"
    • Kon is a damn stud but it’s not any individual player’s team. All of the “big 3” are incredibly and equally important IMO. And LaMelo makes Kon way better (look at his shooting splits with LaMelo on the floor vs without. Also Moose and even Miles are important cogs. Honestly think we’re 1 piece away from being legit top contenders if the young guys continue to develop the next year or two. I trust this FO to be patient to find that piece within the next 2-3 years and not force anything. Plenty of time and even without adding anyone we have the pieces in place overall already to compete with any team.
    • We lost 2 very close and winnable games against top teams in the league while missing 3 critical players despite 2 of our top 3 players shooting unusually terribly. Still split the 4 games that Moose and Miles were suspended, winning the most important one vs the Hawks. This ain’t yo mama’s Hornets man. Hopefully Coby can go soon but even if not Moose and Miles are huge additions for our starting lineup and bench rotations. Schedule is pretty tough after these next 4 but I think we’ll take care of business the next 4 to get to .500 then finish slightly above .500 after that to get a 7 or 8 seed. Keep it rolling boys. Also Kon is having an insanely historic rookie season as a shooter. Like truly can’t believe my eyes watching this kid level of historic. Man what a fuging home run of a draft pick and exactly what this team needed to take that next step forward. He’s gonna shatter the rookie 3 point and franchise 3 point records. Has a real chance to be the 2nd best 3 point shooter ever or dare I say even get to Curry’s level (as a pure shooter, Curry obviously has way more to his game that has made him a GOAT).
