Who to Root for (Week 17)

The Carolina Panthers are currently in place to pick 9th in the NFL draft. We are tied with 4 other teams at 5-10 and have a SOS = .529 rankings us behind the Lions (.504) and Giants (.506) but in front of the Broncos (.567).  Given the outcome of this weekend, the Panthers could move as high as 3rd or as low as 15th.  Here are the games that Directly impact our draft position. I am going to assume we lose this weekend, but who the heck knows anymore.

1)      Cowboys @ Giants: If the Giants win this game, we move ahead of them in the draft order.

2)      Vikings @ Lions: If the Lions win this game, we move ahead of them in the draft order.

3)      Redskins @ Eagles: If the Eagles win this game, we move ahead of them in the draft order.

4)      Ravens @ Bengals: If the Bengals win this game, we move ahead of them in the draft order.

5)      Falcons @ Bucs: If the Falcons win this game, we have a tied record, but move ahead of them due to our lower SOS (.529 vs .550)

6)      Titans @ Texans: If the Texans win this game, we have a tied record, but move ahead of them due to our lower SOS (.529 vs .540)

These 6 games directly impact our draft position and could slide us from 9th to 3rd in the draft and completely make up for that meaningless victory last week.

I don't want to go there, but you could've left off the last 10 words and the post would've been perfect! I pied your post anyway, as it's cut-and-dried---clear and concise!

Obviously I would love to see all of them as you suggested to win.  Would make things much easier for us.

1)      Cowboys @ Giants: If the Giants win this game, we move ahead of them in the draft order.

This is a possibility because it is in NY and this is a rivalry.  I don't think the Giants have a chance for the playoffs anymore so they may play less inspired.

2)      Vikings @ Lions: If the Lions win this game, we move ahead of them in the draft order.

Cook being out will give the Lions a shot.  They aren't bad offensively and might surprise the Vikings

3)      Redskins @ Eagles: If the Eagles win this game, we move ahead of them in the draft order.

This will all depend on Heinke.   If he plays well the Redskins defense will limit Philly's offense.

4)      Ravens @ Bengals: If the Bengals win this game, we move ahead of them in the draft order.

Only in my wildest dreams do I think Cincinnati to upset the Ravens.  I'm not 100% sure but a loss here could put Baltimore out of the playoffs.

5)      Falcons @ Bucs: If the Falcons win this game, we have a tied record, but move ahead of them due to our lower SOS (.529 vs .550)

The Bucs are in (I think) So resting Brady might be a good idea.  Atlanta had them in Atlanta but screwed it up.

6)      Titans @ Texans: If the Texans win this game, we have a tied record, but move ahead of them due to our lower SOS (.529 vs .540)

Titans need to win to be in.  They'll win.

Sean "Arseface" Payton will probably do what he has done in the past by encouraging Aints to purposely lose out to hurt us by pushing our draft spot into the teens.

They have an opportunity to be the top seed.  They'll play to win.  They would be more upset if they let this game get away and Chicago pulls the upset.

1) Sunday 1PM

2)  Sunday 1PM

3) Sunday 8:20 PM

4) Sunday 1PM

5) Sunday 1PM

6) Sunday 4:25 PM

I assume that we'll get ATL/Bucs and either Pit/Browns or Bal/Cin on local TV. Makes for an interesting day of football. We should know, basically where we stand before we kick off. Hope Ron shits the bed again!

    • We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that
    • There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
    • Sounds like Veesaar is entering the draft. He could always test the waters and pull out and return but without him our big men look like a serious liability. Better do something in the portal. If they don't do something about this portal madness my days as a college sports fan are probably numbered. This bullshit of having a nearly entirely new team every season is gonna get old fast.
