We’d be lucky to get the 4th best QB I feel like.

Here’s the teams ahead of us that could realistically draft a QB:

JAX, NYJ, MIA, ATL, DET, PHI

That’s 6 of 7 teams. If you take MIA out, the least likely imo, that’s still 5 teams ahead of us who are probably seriously considering QB. I think it is all but guaranteed that the top 3 are gone by the time we pick, and all it takes is one other team to really like the 4th guy and we are screwed. Not even sure I want the 4th best guy tbh, unless our scouts feel he’s more like the second best.

Oh and the Broncos, who played a game with ZERO QBs this year, and might as well have played the rest that way with how the QBs on their roster played. They’ve got to be considering a trade up.

Try to find out which QB Elway wants and then definitely DON'T draft that guy.

And it’s the right move for you guys. Lots of close losses and chokes this year were more on coaching than personnel. I don’t see any reason the new HC/GM couldn’t turn it around relatively quickly and get a solid 3-5 more years from Ryan, potentially contending as soon as 2022. All depends on hiring the right HC and GM though, which is the much bigger question for you guys than the future at QB.

I don't think so.

Anyone coming in is going to look at the place they are drafting, realize Matt Ryan is going to be 36 when next season starts, and draft one of the QB's coming out.

Sure, he might play another year or two, maybe even three.  But the Falcons, like the Panthers, are unlikely to draft this high again, in a QB class this deep.  To me, that's the biggest concern.  Anyone near the top of this draft is going to look at the QB's coming out and think "We won't see a class like this anytime soon".

Here is the "Minister of Happiness and Stuff (MHS)" take on this:

Year after year, there are teams that swim in the pond at the top of the draft fighting over the hottest qb names in the draft.  So much hype, so much fan expectations, so many desperate GMs looking for a messiah to save their jobs.  They draft QBs, throw them into the fire too soon, and most of the time, they screw up.

So what if we do not love a top 4 QB?  How can we improve without a top 8 QB?

Let's say the 4 QBs are gone in the first 7 picks.  Sewell is also gone, and (for example) Payne (DE Mich) and Surtain II (CB).  What if we moved back 5 spots for a second rounder?  Who is left?  (CB--Farley; WR: Smith, Chase; DE: Rousseau; TE Pitts; OTs Darrisaw, Slater, Cosmi, Leatherwood, QB: Mac Jones, WR: Chase, Smith)  There is a lot to attract a trade suitor.

Lets say that the Vikings trade (14) to get ahead of the Giants for Rousseau, DE.

9. Denver Farley CB

10.Dallas Darrisaw T

11. NY Giants Patrick Jones DE

12. SF Niners Horn CB

13. LA Chargers WR Chase

14:  PANTHERS OPTIONS:  OT: Rashawn Slater  TE: Pitts;  QB: Mac Jones; WR Donta Smith

Slater:  Not as big a drop off from Sewell as you think--any other draft, this is your best lineman, along with Wyatt (G) from Ohio State.  Slater is a top-end tackle, but would be an even better LG.  Versatile.

Pitts:  A playmaker at a position where the Panthers have absolutely nothing.  Upgrade and give the QB an extra option that the defense has to game plan against.

Jones: A strong-armed, smart, accurate QB that simply lacks mobility.  With weapons all around and CMC behind you, maybe this is what Brady wants.  Yes, I think he could bust, but I also think he could be the second--best QB in the draft, when the dust settles.

Smith:  A great route runner with excellent hands and speed.  While we do not need a WR right now, the draft is about the next five years.  Anderson, Moore, and Samuel all need expensive new contracts by the end of 2021. (Moore can be tagged)

With two picks in the second, I would address the OL.

Ryan is a borderline elite QB who hasn’t slowed down one bit. Not even comparable to the Panthers who don’t have a QB. They have no reason to move on from him.

Falcons cant afford to give a 34 million dollar contract to a player not to play for 2 years

They won't.

If they are anything remotely resembling smart they'll pull a Favre / Rodgers.  Falcons can give Ryan two more years to start and teach, then cut him prior to 2023 at age 38 with only 8 million dead.

I'm saying they can't afford to pay a rookie 8 mil a year to sit for 2 of them.  If they pick at 4 and not trade back, they will pick an immediate impact type player

Are Falcons going to take a QB? That is the key to us getting Wilson or Lance.

If i were them, im trading out. They still have another year of cap purgatory. If they stack picks for the upcoming years they could put their franchise in a win for years to come 2022 and on.
