Could we move DJ?

First off let me go ahead and state that I know this isn’t Madden. I’m also not advocating we do this. But I do want to get your thoughts.

Right now the debate for keeping Samuel predicates on his contract desires. It got me thinking about what DJ Moore will be asking for when his contract is up. This offense is at its best when the ball is being spread around and not laser focused on one individual. We have CMC who if we laser focus on anybody too much, it’s him. But Receiver wise, not having a true #1 works to our advantage. That won’t and shouldn’t stop DJ from pursuing WR1 money though. I don’t blame him. But do we need a WR1 on this team? If we resigned Curtis and resigned Anderson as well, I’d think they’d both come much cheaper than DJ.

Given all of our other holes on this roster, WR might be our strongest area. I look at somebody like Diggs a couple years ago to compare to DJ now.

Again, not saying we do this. But what kind of value do u think DJ has right now given his age and on a rookie contract? We saw what Diggs netted in a trade. Yes, I also realize Diggs went on to lead the league in yards. But unfortunately we have to think long term about our cap so it just got me thinking.

What kind of pick could u see us getting? Would a team like the Colts be interested? Could we move him for a young player at a position we need? Is it stupid to even be pondering this? What do y’all think?

I'd rather trade robby and keep dj and Samuel, I know it won't happen but if I had a choice of which 2 to keep, that would be mine.

But would Robby net anything near DJ given age and contract? I guess that’s what I’m getting at.

I'm excited to see what DJ can do when he has a QB that can place balls out in front of him to run under instead of these constant back shoulder stops from TB5.  Without even thinking about it real hard, I can recall at least five plays this year where a QB with a real NFL arm could have put one out in front of DJ for a TD.

I think any draft pick would do, but yeah, I don't know who would take him when he has 1 year left on his deal. There would also be the freed up cap space, so we can extend more vital pieces of this team (Moton and hopefully Samuel). Also, how does it work contract wise ? Does the new team take all the responsibility and we would be off the hook ? If I'm not mistaken, there is something with the guaranteed money, that would still count towards our cap.

You don’t build good football teams by consistently allowing your own best performing draft picks to go elsewhere.

DJ is the first WR we've had since Steve Smith to consistently win contested passes.  DJ should remain with this team until he is no longer serviceable.  In other words until he about to retire.

As you stated you don't trade away your best assets for a draft pick that probably won't out perform him.

    • We don't have to tear down Dak to appreciate what Bryce did yesterday. Dak had 0 running game. If the cowboys were better, he'd be a legit MVP candidate if he keeps playing this way.  They did it with Ceedee last year, but they do a better job of anybody we play consistently of getting their best receiver off Jaycee.  Bryce was good too. If we just catch the ball that was intercepted, we probably win by 7+, and Bryce goes over 200 yards passing.  Biggest shift the last few weeks has been play calling. I thought Canales abandoned the run game way to early at times last year. This year he really seems to be sticking with it.  I still think Chuba is better at making 4 yards when there's nothing there, but Rico is better at making 30 yards when there's 6 there. I like the direction. Hopefully we can get Moton, Sanders and Coker back and really be dangerous. Our play action game is pretty deadly right now.  Unrelated: My favorite quality about Bryce right now is his ability to see the defensive hold and throw the ball there. He EXPOSES the officials when they don't call it. That one on Tetaroia yesterday late in the game was a bad miss on their part.
    • That sacks allowed number lookin juicy!
    • This is a game the Panthers should win... just the sort of game they lose. The Panthers have a bad habit that goes back years of playing down to the competition's level only to mess around and lose the game. The Jets game should be taken very seriously! But I want to enjoy the fact that they beat the Cowboys for at least another day or so!
