I don't want this to happen but I suspect that if we do draft a QB (which seems likely) the staff will be under pressure for him to start sooner and after a good camp we'll give up a mid round pick in 2022 for another team to take Teddy's contract off our hands (like the Jets did with him after drafting Darnold).

And if we do trade for either Watson or Stafford, Teddy is 100% gone, so I predict he'll be traded. But it's still very likely as well that he'll be day 1 starter while a rookie rides the pine (what I want to happen).

I don't think the staff is going to much under much actual pressure. Rhule is basically getting to do his own thing for now. Who would pressure him? Tepper? I don't see that as likely.

I think if Teddy is still with the team in 2021 AND we have drafted a QB at #8, the best player will play for us. If the coaches think the rookie is ready to go, we are gonna start the rookie.

That said, we did start a lot more veteran guys early last season that saw less and less time as the season went on(Weatherly, Whitehead, etc).

The play of the rookie and fans/media will pressure him. Unless it's very clear that he's not even close to being ready all of camp and preseason, there will be a ton of pressure for a highly drafted QB to start ASAP. We see it all the time.

Yeah, I mean....I just don't view that was quite the same kind of pressure. That takes a while to get bad enough to make a move and only if Teddy is just out there shitting the bed.

It's not about being bad or any external pressure on Rhule. If the rookie QB looks ready (which is likely for Fields/Wilson, maybe not as much Lance) then the HC is going to be under a lot of internal pressure (not internal within the org. but in his own head) to start the guy if he's ready and let him rock and roll. Plus the chances that the rookie QB is better than Teddy is going to be close to 100% if he's not a bust.

We also don't know Rhule's philosophy on playing a young QB early. If it's anything like his philosophy on playing young defenders early, then that QB would be guaranteed to start day 1. If he thinks that a young QB should sit early on even if he's the best QB on the roster then maybe he'd hold to that, but we've seen before many coaches who say that and then wind up starting the rookie. I really hope we'd play it slow with a rookie we draft but I think it's unlikely.

The most likely QB scenario involves the Panthers drafting a QB in Round 1 after trading up. (Bridgewater starts the season as QB 1 unless it is somehow Trevor Lawrence)

The second most likely scenario involves the Panthers standing pat and drafting a QB at pick 8. (Bridgewater starts the season as QB 1)

The third most likely scenario is that the Panthers do not draft a QB early. (Bridgewater starts the season as QB 1)

The fourth most likely scenario involves the Panthers trading for a QB. (Bridgewater is not QB 1) ( He starts as the back-up or ideally is traded himself)

The fifth most likely scenario involves the Panthers signing a FA QB. (Hard to tell who the starter would be)

Thus,  there is a high probability that Bridgewater begins next season as QB1.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
