New GM wants to upgrade QB/DB position and build out the lines.

Picking up Stafford would allow us to do that and remain within budget without trading one of our better young players.

Win, win and win.

But what would we need to give up to get him? I like the idea of trading back, filling those holes, and grabbing a young QB like Mond or Costello later on. If we have to give up a bunch, then we won’t be able to fill those spots in the draft.

Don't be surprised if the Lions and Falcons both draft a QB, along with the Jags and Jets. That's four teams minimum ahead of the Panthers that want QBs then you have teams right behind us like the Broncos , 49ers, Vikings, Patriots who could all trade in front of us for a QB.

If the Panthers staff really wants a competent QB they're going to have to make an extremely aggressive move (either trade up in R1 or trade picks and players for a free agent).

This would have been the perfect year to actually go 0-16 to 3-13 based on how fuging badly we need a QB but also preferring to keep rebuilding the team as a whole .

I could see half the fan base revolting if Fiterer does a massive trade down and we have a bunch of JAGs to go along with Teddy B in 2021 and we go 8-8.

Hell no trading anything for Stafford would be rediculous. The Lions have already stated he isn't in their plans. At least wait for him to be released.

I would trade them a bad contract--like Shaq--but I do not think he gets released--Indy, Washington, New England--they all need a QB---but who knows?

the source of every awful QB take on this board centers around "being economical"

It's okay to get a terrible player like Sam darnold, as long as you don't have to give up a bunch, afterall, when the cap space and draft picks are factored into our W/L record at the end of the season, were gonna wanna be well off there

The panthers need to spend big-they need to spend high draft picks, lots of them if necessary, and spend a whole lot of cap space if necessary as well

Spend spend spend and get an elite franchise player

Of course Stafford wouldn't be the long term answer.  He'd be the stop gap measure TB was intended to be for us.

Focus on O linemen and a DB this draft.

and what pick are we gonna have when the time comes to transition

    • We have a Bryce Young problem and until it's resolved it's extremely hard to judge our coaching in any significant way. Canales has made mistakes, as any coach will, but he's also called plays that with even moderately average QB play would result in positive outcomes.  Canales' biggest "mistake" is trusting Bryce at all, but then, maybe he's just ensuring he has a new QB to work with next year.  We aren't the only team where players run the wrong routes, we just are one of a couple with a bottom 30 QB.
    • I thought that too Ie trying to prove ‘look, he cant do it under the lights on the big stage’ honestly, im Not sure he is that bright  then again, how many coaches and  offenses have to  fail to prop up young before this ends  i blame both canales and young for that defensive carnage Monday night   Both of them  …and ill say too, if part of the problem is after 12 games into the season, the receivers are still too deep in their routes then either new receivers are needed Or new coaching or the routes are failures  or the qb or all 4  they have had preseason, mini camps, training camp, practice and the season their coach was a receivers coach and now the OC   and they still cant consistently complete a pass  not a good look he has business being the OC and HC he isnt McVay and he isnt Reid
    • That would’ve been even funnier and really summed up the night given it would’ve been an illegal forward pass.  Bryce is clearly throwing the ball forward to Chuba
