Don't get me wrong, I don't want this guy in the first or otherwise.  I'm actually kind of concerned that Rhule is giving him so much praise. Perhaps, it's just coach speak.

I hope so otherwise anyone in front of him is just so amazing.

TBH, I think coaches at events like the Senior Bowl are only likely to give glowing reviews of players. I sometimes find it more interesting to see what is not said. I believe I noticed that Rhule did not speak of Jones arm talent when giving him a glowing review.

I don't think you are gonna see him publicly trash any of these guys. If you saw the workouts he might be hard on them but his focus was trying to get them in a better place to be drafted and be better players.

Now privately, I am quite sure he would tell some people that X or Y player just wasn't worth the trouble. I haven't seen him burn a player publicly, be a little critical maybe.

If I recall correctly, there was some talk that certain players in this Senior Bowl absolutely crossed themselves off the Panthers list with their attitudes (might have been Phil Snow that said that, not sure). I know there was a report that Rhule asked one young safety to cover a tight end or a receiver and he refused.

Rhule isn't gonna talk publicly about those guys, of course.

Wonder how no combine is going to affect the draft

About the same as last year when the opposite happened...the Combine happened, but many of the Pro Days were cancelled.  Scouts get one shot instead of two.  Crap, we had arguably our best draft in Franchise history with Pro Days largely cancelled, which is ironic.  Honestly the biggest difference will be the lack of overall game tape in 2020.  Remember a lot of conference cancelled especially outside of the Power 5 and even some of them had truncated seasons.  That will be the biggest factor hindering scouts.  A great deal of 2019 tape will be used to evaluate prospects.

Like, WTF? Why would you bother to show up if you weren't going to do what the coaches asked of you?

Seriously.

Do these kids think NFL teams are just lining up for the opportunity to hand them millions of dollars?

Was that the elevator ride thing last year that got a high level player crossed off Rhules list or did it happen again this year?

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
