Game of Thrones... Is it worth it?

but the real question....has any mega show ever pulled off an ending and is it even possible to actually satisfied the collective audience that has invested years into a TV show?

LOST, GOT, SOA, etc.  most of my favorite shows (and I don't actually watch much random TV) left me disappointed in the end.   Didn't watch the Sopranos but heard the same there too.

I thought Band of Brothers got it right, although in fairness, they pretty much had it written for them.

Six Feet Under absolutely NAILED the ending.

Yeah I wouldn't say say Six Feet Under was a massive show though.    Justified had a fantastic ending too but not a massive show.   Parks and Rec, etc.

But yeah it's kind of true, if a show is SO popular, all those years, so connected with fans, which ones really were amazing?   Breaking Bad was pretty close, M.A.S.H.    But there is a lot of examples like you posted.

I really do think people are so sad to see something go that a lot of animosity goes into their judgement.

Sopranos was perfect and completely embodied the entire show+ mafia concept, people just didn't get it at the time.

And Yes most triple A TV does actually pull off an ending.

Game of Thrones was my favorite show of ALL TIME.  And it wasn't even close.  The last season did change that.   Largely the final episode.  While the last season wasn't on par w/ the standard I held them to.... a decent final episode would have kept it as my favorite all time. Probably still in my top 10 because the ride was really really good and I guess a bad ending shouldn't erase that.

If you quit on season 5? Yeah, keep watching.  You didn't even get to some of the really good stuff.

My favorite of all time also. Number 2 is Last Kingdom and 3 is Outlander.

I liked Last Kingdom a lot too.  Maybe I'll need to try out Outlander.

Lots of accurate NC Scottish history to sort through in seasons 4 and 5 in Outlander. Netflix has up to season 4 I think, then you have to do a Starz free 7 day to get up to date. Outlander is still filming also.

There is definitely a downgrade in quality after S6 but it was still better than a lot of TV.  To be honest, I think he first half of the final season was really good, it was the last episode that was pretty stupid.  I still have it somewhere between 6-9 all-time for me.

As for shows with good endings, they are definitely the minority but do exist.  For my money Six Feet Under has the best finale and it is not even close.  It is one of my top ten episodes of TV altogether.  The Leftovers (which is also my favorite series ) and The Americans would my next two.

I'm kind of an eternal optimist when it comes to fandom things.

It's the best show ever up through season 6.

Season 7 was kind of like hmm that wasn't quite as good but hey they had to set up the last season right?

Season 8 was like wait..what? No this isn't right. what about x or y? wait they're never going to address that? wait no...they're not just going to end it withou-

    • I am gonna believe it wasn’t us if the 4th round pick price is accurate. We needed 225 points to get from 19 to their pick. 875 at 19 to 1100 at 14.  Our 2026 4th was valued at 56 points I think. A future 4th has less value. So that wasn’t close to enough.    It would have taken our third and our fourth. Comes within a point of even.    Now, moving to their spot in the second round we could have done but after Miami took Rodriguez why would we?
    • Yep,and Blake Miller have had more experiences than Freeling,Lions did not sigh a vet T like Walker,so they had to pick Miller.
    • I mean it's expected.  This is the NBA.  And they hate the Charlotte Hornets.  Flagg was also the guy "magically" given to the Mavs who lost Luca to the wildly popular Lakers.  Was always an uphill battle.  But the award is BS since it's not voted on before play-in starts. Kon probably lost because of the play-in as many people switched votes.  It was a regular season award, so this is some nonsense.  Kon also didn't have the luxury of taking 10 games off to rest up injuries like Flagg did.  If he did, he wouldn't have been nursing his back the last month.  I mean, screw him for being on an actual playoff team that matters.  Flagg took tons of shots a game, he was wildly inefficient.  Kon was a huge reason the Hornets made the play-in and turned the season around after Jan.   I think Flagg will probably be the better player long term, or at least the most impact.  But Kon should have won ROTY.
