The SB showed us about having a solid O-line

It also showed the importance of good TEs

Panthers don’t  have one of those either

Kelce dropping passes and Gronk catching but both were targeted often

Ian Thomas was solid when he replaced Olsen in 2018 as a rookie, Teddy, or this offense just don't feature TE usage. https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/4045305/ian-thomas

Then 2019 Olsen returns, and Cam is hurt all year, and in 2020 he's the 5th option if that with a QB that doesn't look past the sticks hardly.

Sounds like we all agree. You need a good O-line to compete, Elite QB or not. yes, we want a franchise QB but until we build that O-line, it doesn't matter was my point.

I also think that defense made a difference too. 2 great LBs and JPP being like a Burns. They cover the run and pass so well.

Brady offense featured TE plenty at LSU.

The Saints offense also featured Cook plenty as well

not buying it   Just because it wasn’t done  this year with the Panthers  doesn’t mean they didn’t want to.

Like, you don't have to be intentionally obtuse and act like people are saying we ONLY need a QB. That's not the case, it's just that QB is the most important position on the field and (see the Colts this year and the Bucs last year) and if you have a great roster with no QB you're limited in how far you can go. Obviously a QB won't solve all the problems of this team but it would fill a HUGE need, the most important one, and this is a great year to do it. None of that means a QB will solve our issues in the trenches or the secondary.

They’re definitely important and I don’t think anyone would say differently. Chiefs didn’t have their all pro right tackle and pro bowl left tackle. We don’t need elite line play we need solid play. Mahomes barely got time in that pocket and they kill teams with those deep passes. He looked like he was back at Texas tech running around playing backyard football. It was ugly. His receivers didn’t help the situation.

The people screaming that Watson is worth the future is saying that. Also no, for super bowl, you need elite not solid. Think Tampa was ranked 5, Chiefs 11.

The average rank of super bowl oline for the past 20 years is like 6.

Thats the average. Therefore yes, you need elite. Is is the second most consistent thing they have in common after a top defense. In fact, I could make an strong argument you need solid QB play and elite oline play vs. the other way around.

Also, heavy draft investments were made in 90% of those olines.

So yea...people saying Watson will make a difference giving up the next 3 years of first and second picks with literally only Paradis, an injured average Center on the oline, is basically saying it’s not all that important and if you read the above is a really, really moronic thing to do/say.

People really proclaim themselves as a casual/not so smart/madden fan when you say things like trade for Watson whatever teh cost!!1

And that’s just the oline, if we get into other rankings of super bowl contenders we have a poo ton of holes.

We should have traded back and picked Wirfs

Every Super Bowl brings about a litany of definitive statements:

"Having a great DLine wins championships"

"Can't win without an elite receiver"

"Must have a great OLine to compete"

"The secondary is the key to a Super Bowl win"

Super Bowls are just one game, yet they are treated as the holy grail of all games. The fact is, KC had subs in at key positions in the OLine. Tough to win that way, even with elite personnel in other positions. TB had a solid game plan and got KC rattled early. Then again, Andy Reid is not always known for winning the big game at the end of the year.

Talent wins games. Talent throughout the roster helps. Good coaching makes a difference. Staying healthy is also huge.

It's just one game.

At the same time, there doesn't have to be intentional obtuseness to the outright screaming people are doing for a QB, complete with implying that it would have been the difference between the Panthers winning those close games that they were in (meanwhile, The Riot Report put together a helpful article detailing "the blame game" in regards to those losses) and contending for a championship.

Nobody will debate that QB isn't the most important position on the field. That isn't the issue. The issue is that some are all for selling the farm to get a QB (regardless of mileage on them) just to not have Bridgewater anymore. There is no attention paid to the salary cap and other position groups, which are incredibly lacking. That's the issue, and to pretend that that hasn't been happing is uninformed at best, intentionally misleading at worst.

When you've got the same people popping into every QB thread making the same complaints about last season's starter (while at the same time ignoring their incredibly bad takes on Justin Herbert being Blaine Gabbert 2.0, Cam Newton not being a "true" NFL QB, CMC being a slot WR, etc) the narrative becomes pretty clear: who cares that we only have 3 (bad) starters on the OL next year, a QB is what is keeping us from the postseason.

Like... that cannot be further from the truth.
