I love Cam but I think his arm is done. He can’t last more than half a season

Tepper made a bet that Cam was done.

I wouldn't bet against Cam Newton, WE knew that, HE made a miscalculation and if the Patriots start winning with this QB that was DONE Teppers decisions look more suspect.

Some of us here thought Cam had at least 3-5 years left.

Who's winning so far?

That's because he wasn't attempting many throws beyond short and intermediate.  With the same group of crappy wide receivers, Patriots went from throwing 58% of the time with Tom Brady, to only 47% of the time with Cam Newton. They went from 8th best passing offense (yds/game) in 2019, to 29th in 2020.

Read the comments on their fan message board, 99% are shocked he was resigned.

And again those stats and information you're throwing out still doesn't prove Cam's arm is done. You know there are other factors at play (PERSONNEL) being one of the main catalysts in your theory. The other is Cam's time with the playbook. Julian Edleman was Tom Brady's #1 WR that year. Had a 1,000 yard season. Where was Julian Edleman for 75% of Cam's season last year? On the sideline (except for that one game where you know, Julian had his best game of his entire career with Cam at QB). Tom Brady also left town and jump shipped to go play in a stacked offense. Funny how you left that bit of information out. He didn't want to throw to the likes of N'keal Harry and Damiere Byrd and I don't blame him

Not even a debate, releasing Cam was the right decision. I would have waited another year until we could draft his replacement.

Gantt said the same.

Honestly though, I think the bigger question applies to Belichick.

Last season had folks asking whether Belichick's greatness was really due to Brady.

Regardless of what happens with Newton, if the Patriots struggle again this year, those questions are gonna get louder.

Brady wouldn't have won a Super Bowl with the players Cam was surrounded with on offense....maybe he would have made the playoffs, but that's a BIG maybe.

Pats defense wasn't anything to brag about either.

He only looked good throwing like one game. There are numerous gifs and videos out there showing just how bad his arm is now. He often wound up like he was getting ready to throw a bomb, only for him to sail a 10 yard deep duck. His throwing motion often looked like a weird technical glitch. At this point you have to be delusional to think he is nothing more than a shadow of his former self.

Yet he's starting QB for the New England Patriots.

Who sounds foolish?

A glance at message boards suggests otherwise. They are about as excited as we are to have Teddy back but not as hateful about it.

New England fans not hateful? First and only time I encountered someone that referred to Newton by a racial slur was a patriots fan.

    • I see Bryce's development this way: He improved when his supporting cast improved.  TMac and Dowdle saved his arse last year, but in fairness, most good QBs have good WRs and good RBs--and good OLs.   The 2025 OL underperformed, actually. They were above average, but they should have been elite if you consider the salary cap.   As soon as we signed Lewis and Hunt, I started thinking, "That's not sustainable.  With Ickey about to get paid a LT salary, Moton and Hunt grabbling $50m per season combined, and Lewis around $17m--that would be nearly $100m and the Center just walked.  Yikes.  What does that mean?  Rico walks, Mays walks, and we do not have a top 5 WR on a second contract.  We do not have an elite TE, and only 1 is on a modest second contract. And now Bryce will demand $50m for his incremental rise to mediocrity?   So when we sign Bryce, we will get weaker at other positions.  Hunt, Moton, maybe Ickey and Lewis, will all be casualties--that is the right move regardless (not sure yet about Ickey, but he was not elite) Bryce is one lucky, entitled camper.  No competition since being drafted, and he lost his job for a while to the aging clipboard holder.  Now we are bringing in UDFAs and busts to compete with him.
    • Probably not.  If we are taking a QB, it would be a prospect to replace Bryce and not a flyer type player.  I can't say for sure, but I doubt he would have cracked the top 3-4 QBs even if he were to play this coming season.
    • The Giants, Cardinals  and Dolphins should have moved on, but they didn't and ended up cutting their QB early into a monster second contract and had to eat a TON of dead cap money.
