Agreed. No question that Brees has been one of the best and racked up crazy stats but he's been the ultimate game manager, distributing the ball with high completion percentages, for almost a decade now and the Saints have continually failed against the most elite competition. Hell, they've only scored more 24 or more points 3/9 games in the playoffs since 2013, with the last time being against the Panthers in 2017, That 'high-powered offense' scored 23 once, 21, once, and 20 3 times in their last 5 playoff games. They win a lot of regular season games but that style can't be counted on to get it done against the elite in today's NFL.

24 points should typically be enough to win an NFL game but the postseasons is its own beast. It's a big reason why I'm personally so against the game manager style and advocate for dynamics.

Brady can drive the ball though - he was chucking 50+ air-yard strikes this season at 43 years old. Brees could do that in his younger years but the threat hasn't consistently been there for a long while now. It will be very interesting to see if/how things change with Taysom or especially Jameis at the helm. I'm not saying it's guaranteed to be better, but it's a dimension that's been absent in their recent offenses. Will be interesting to see who ends up at the helm and how Payton adapts.

obviously my avatar shows how much I hate the Saints.  They have choked out, and I'll be changing my avatar soon as they settle into the irrelevance they are used to.

But I'll give Drew his proper respect.  He was good, and better than most of the best.  It would have been a lot more fun watching him if he wasn't a Saint, but he was still fun to watch.

    • Does this mean only topics from within the last year or any topics with posts from the last year? i.e. if there are any old threads we feel should be kept around for whatever reasons, would a bump of that thread before the update ensure it's kept around in full or do the posts from more than a year old still disappear?
    • I'm more intrigued at him becoming our future LG. There were some people who thought he was better suited to be a guard in the NFL to begin with.  Then if Freeling ends up being a legit LT, moving Ickey to LG could give us an incredibly strong left side of our OL for years to come. Ickey has only played on the Left side his whole career, both in college and the NFL, so I just wonder if keeping him on the left side, even if shifting inside, would be better than putting him outside on the right side. Just hoping him growing up a Panthers fan will make him want to stay here and move positions than enter FA so he can stay at LT somewhere else, particularly since LT is the big money position on the OL, so he likely can get paid more by someone else to play LT than play LG or RT here for us.
