Trrading CMC is virtually impossible after the restructure.  We would have over 30million in dead cap over the next 2 seasons, and it would eat our cap this year too.

The front offices do not care at all about future cap ramifications. The cap in 2022 is probably going to be over $215 million. That’s almost a $40 million swing (assuming COVID restrictions are going to be gone). Watson isn’t set to be a free agent until 2026.

So you’ll basically have one of the most talented QBs in the league on one of the friendliest deals for a team. The dead cap you eat while acquiring him is a completely moot point. McCaffery’s restructure makes it more palatable for teams to acquire him in the short term while you’re cap strapped and then when the cap increases from TV money it doesn’t matter. That restructure was purely done for this year’s deals. Nothing else.

Huh? Deshaun watson has a 40 million dollar cap hit every year until he is a FA.... Thats not team friendly at all.

As for CMC, he has a 14- 17mil dollar cap hit for every season following this one... How is that more palatable for a team to take on?  CMC doesnt get cheap until his final year at 14 million and that is in 2026.

Also, you are incorrect on the Salary cap for 2022, the NFL is currently borrowing 10 million (20mm total) from the cap in both 2022 and 2023 to avoid have the cap sub 180 this year. Based off of last year's revenue the cap was only slated to be 162million, but they know how much that would have handicapped the league and players, they elected to borrow money from future caps. They took a loan against themselves. So even though the cap is estimated to grow in 2022 based on pre-covid revenue, the highest it could be at is 210 million.

That being part of the Steelers ownership group doesn't guarantee good football decision making skills.

Haslam did some incredibly stupid things after taking over the Browns.

What I was referring to is that he has football operations expereince. So he isnt completly brand new to understanding how a franchise is run. How we runs it we wont know until about year 5-7.

Twist ending: This deal goes down, the Texans use our first round pick to select Mac Jones. In two years, they are in the SB with all the talent they've acquired, while we have managed 2 years of 8-8.

Not what I want, obviously, but the irony would be incredible.

I wonder who the coach will be...
