hmmm...add a top 5 non-QB talent in the entire draft, or draft a QB that must sit at least one year and is a 50/50 shot at absolute best to be any good?

tough choice.

Actually, no it isn't if you take time to look at it objectively.  But with the snide comment about Lance, that objectivity was never considered.

We didn't suck last year despite the record.  Teddy 'two-gloves' and Joey Slye did more than their share to ensure those 5 wins.  Had Teddy and Joey even hit 50% of those critical 4th quarter TD passes and game winning kicks, respectfully, we were a .500 team with a green defense and rookie head coach.  CMC was sidelined most of the year too.  There is zero reason to believe this team should be in the hunt for a top 10 pick next draft in a MUCH thinner QB class.

In other words, if we opt to pass up a QB this year, we are riding with Darnold and potentially will be back in the same boat in two years looking to acquire a veteran QB if Sam isn't our franchise QB after all.

I disagree, we lost some good players to free agency and our Oline needs a lot of work.

You're right, it's probably worse than 50/50 with Lance. He's a huge project that attempted about 18 passes per game as a one-year starter in a second-tier division of college football.

And if you look at it "objectively," the truth is, 50/50 is probably generous.

So because they are not with their original team from 5-12 years ago, we should not take a QB if one is available?  You may want to contact the GMs for the Jags, Jets and 49ers and tell them not to bother.

Yeah I just don't see us drafting Lance just to have two project QBs on the team. Now you could definitely argue the case for justin fields. Butttt.... like majority of the comments here, just my opinion

Does Fields unseat Darnold most or all of next season, yes or no?   Simple answer.

People are reading way too much into this. Basically if Lance or Fields are available they are taking them. This also adds smoke to screen who they will take. Its quiet possible Denver might give us a few picks to move up simply cause they know we might draft a QB and they cant wait.

Exactly!

We need to figure out QB long term. Darnold has a small chance to be that guy, but very unlikely. A Fields or Lance at 8 has a better chance to be that guy. Added together our odds of finding that long term QB increase. I don't know why anyone would have any issues with this. Plus if we start Darnold this year and he's solid and then the rookie is ready at some point we can get our assets back for Darnold in another trade. If we like one of the top 4 QBs at 8 and he's there then that'll be a great pick. If not, then we're good looking at OT/CB/etc.

    • Honestly, it only makes sense if you're trying to chase being the best bad team you can be this year. The number one question we need answered this season is whether or not Bryce is our long-term franchise QB. Trading away a second year WR who was second on the team in catch percentage, first in yards per target, and who clearly outplayed your 1st round pick for a likely one year rental fill in LB is exactly the type of short sighted desperation moves that has made us the worst franchise in the league under Tepper. We gotta stop making these types of moves and just focus on building a good organization and a good roster. Lloyd is a JAG LB another bad team and awful defense is wavering on and a couple of Panthers fans are salivating over him. Oof. We just need to be patient and wait. Definitely make some calls around the league to teams deep at LB and see if there's an opportunity to add one for a late round pick. Definitely shop the waiver wire hard. The reality is that LB is almost certainly going to be a weakness for us this year. We weren't fixing our entire roster in one off-season and we're not fixing an overall weak positional group in late July.  If you trade for Lloyd LB is still a weakness and you've given up a young promising WR who could potentially help you answer the question of whether or not Bryce is that guy. That's bad football business.
    • I think it's because we've had a player to hate on NO (Breese) and Atl (Ryan) while Tampa had Winston who was never really a threat or dislikable like the other 2
    • yeah. it was also reported that Brown was taking it light today because of oblique soreness. Sounds like the 2 of them were a bit too rough with each other for practice.
