Why, because he clashed with Rhule?

I think Brown was a great pick. We desperately needed a DT and this years class is terrible.

Hopefully, Marty’s overall record of roster building is what got him fired.

When Marty was fired, one of the big reasons cited was that he and  Rhule didn't mesh well.

I agree his record should have been a factor, but I can't help thinking if it were as big a deal as it should have been, he wouldn't have lasted as long as he did.

I am going to revisit what I said some time ago, before we (and I) started praying for a T.

There are starting tackles in early round 2.

We need a #1 CB so that Jackson is not locked up on the opposition's #1.  That makes both outside CBs better.  We can't find that #1 CB in rounds 2-7.

Did we sign a free agent who can play #1?  We signed a 32-year old nickel and a gamble.

CB Kelvin Joseph might be around with our second pick. He covered 1st round prospect Devonte Smith well.

The team has sent out so many mixed smoke signals that we really can't trust any of this stuff. If we did it would mean that they were either ready to trade everything for a shot at a QB, trade down to get 47 picks and a crate of footballs, or sh!t the bed by picking a WR at #8.

I sure hope Rhule and Co. have a better idea of what to do than it's looking like from the outside.

Drafting Chase at 8 would be FAR from shitting the bed.  Other teams would be shitting themselves at the thought of going up against our offense.

I think many of you are completely underrating the impact a shut down corner would have on this young defense. Drafting one of these guys gives so much more flexibility as to what Snow will be asking Chinn to do. Chinn becomes an all pro safety/lb with a shutdown corner opposite of him.

there are guys I’d rather have but I absolutely won’t be upset if one of these guys is the pick.

Not crazy about a cb at 8. However, I'd be on board with a cb in the teens plus the haul from trading down, and snag an OT in the 2nd given there should be plenty of decent ones to choose from.

CB is a huge need. We have no current starting caliber corners signed past this year, Donte is guaranteed to miss games and Bouye is suspended the first 2 games with his best years behind him. You could argue it might be our biggest need. I'd still rather have Sewell if he's there but if he's gone and a team is willing to pay big to move up to 8, we should hear them out

Let's be honest... until he proves otherwise, I don't think any opposing DCs are shitting themselves going up against Sam Darnold.

FIelds or OT at 8 please and thanks unless our doors are absolutely blown off with a trade down option.

The defense should be good, even with CB being a weakness.  Can't fix it all this year, and offense is quickly going to be the issue over the defense if big moves aren't made there, especially in the future.

Based on what? Our QB getting sacked and eventually carted off before he can toss it to Chase?

Right because if we don't take a Tackle at 8, there is no other possible way to land a good player at that position....

Very high on Newsome!

Me too! I have him as my #3 CB behind Horn and Surtain. I would be floored if Newsome doesn't go 1st round. If he doesn't, Panthers better trade up from 39 to 33 and take him with the 1st pick of round 2 and celebrate

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
    • Hiring Shula & his Cam save us playbook.
    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
