And it's probably because he was picked #8 overall. Cam wore  #2 at Auburn but stuck to #1 because he was picked first overall.

Jimmy also wouldn't give him the #2.

The single-digit selection of No. 8, the number Bryant wore in the first half of his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers from 1997 to 2006, will certainly be quite a different look in the secondary come game day.

Horn also appeared to have considered No. 21 and No. 24, Bryant’s second number he donned from 2007 to 2016, in the process. In the end, we can say he certainly nailed it. His No. 8 may not only signify his exact draft position, but also a true fandom to one of the most influential and impactful athletes in history.

this guy retire?

Sure, but Jimmy wasn't with the team the next season and Cam didn't pursue #2 after that.

and Cam set the world on fire as a rookie rewriting the record books.  At that point, he really couldn't' change.  Wouldn't be worth the money/cost and little kids across the country knew #1 was Cam.

    • Well Ron did have a 9 year playing career that cannot be understated. But he was an NFL coach/staff member in some capacity for about 13 years before taking our HC job, 6 as a DC. By comparision, DC has been an NFL coach/staff member in some capacity for 14 years prior to taking our HC job, only 1 as an OC.  So, in theory, Dave really shouldn't be super far behind the curve when compared to Ron. Although, I think Ron obviously had a much better grasp of what it takes to be a successful NFL player/Coach.
    • I don’t know where the QB is going to come from but with a decent vet he won’t need three years.   I’d say we should try and trade for one but haven’t given it any real though to say if there is even one out there that fits that scenario. But I would rather give up big picks for a proven commodity that what we did with Bryce.
    • I hope he can figure it out. He probably got the job a year or two before he was ready. I am not sure he is even fully in control of the defense. The rico thing, the QB room, not enough in game adjustments; like the buffalo game. Somebody should have tried something different to stop that toss sweep. He was already standing in the open grave when he took this job from dave tepper. The question is whether dave is going to give him enough rope to get out of the grave hole or is he going to hit him over the head with the shovel and bury him.
