I know one of the NO games (later one, I think), Drew brees AVOIDED jacksons side the entire game. I think he only threw 1 or 2 passes in jacksons direction. They attack weakness, make LB pass cover, etc.. But to me that at least showed me how the saints staff viewed Djack, I was pleasantly surprised.

Jackson was a menace last year.  Injury stopped a pro-bowl season.

Why did we only see flashes before.  Why didn't we see that level of play for years...experience, scheme, coaching, all of the above?  Its not like he had a better supporting cast last year.

I think it was a combo of many things. I know he showed up 15 lbs heavier(the good kind) last year. Honestly I think RR and his DB coaches were better than Rhules Crew, just one of their strength. Even tho hes not in the NFL, I thought Steve Wilks was top 5 DB coach. Djack just figuring out how to be NFL pro rather than the opposite. I know some think Djack doesnt tackle well, I feel at least hes not scared of the act in tacking a bigger player.  Since day one, he was one of the fastest players in the whole NFL too. I know he keeps in touch with LSU DBs(they call themselves DB U), that has to help lots as well. Heard him talking with the honey badger and they emphasize having a dawg mentally.

I'm not really convinced he's a good player at this point but we will see.

He has shown flashes of being a great player. One has to wonder if he simply could stay healthy if he would be considered our franchise CB.

He is one of the best INT producing CB's we have ever fielded.

That's his biggest knock. He's a wee lad.

And there are rumors putting him at nickel-they tackle once in a while, and my impression of Jackson is "that ain't his bag."

Had two meh-to-poor years. One good with a nagging injury, it was the most recent. Im not convinced either, but this is a big year for him. If he has a great season, panthers may be forced to use the tag on him. Plus with the rebound in cap space, he could easily get top 5 money on the open market if he has a great year too. The whole NFL is looking for speed and the whole league knows Djack has elite speed.

I think he would need one heck of a season for the tag.

    • This is a good take it really is to the point dc needs to let the world see the real byoung b/c right now everyone in the media and tepper has had blinders on when it comes to young.  Its hard to even know where the panthers are at skill player wise with such horrible qb play.  I doubt it but legette may be a probowl wr he just cant throw the ball and catch it.  I am just so sick of every excuse in the book for byoung.  LIstened to a podcast and the guy was going over how many different options byoung had on the int and all of them were ok except for the one where he threw an int.  He said the play could be run by a hs qb and they would typically make a good decision.
    • I certainly have my complaints about Canales but I'm not ready to fire him yet for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, Tepper has made this one of the least appealing jobs in the league. Morgan and Canales are here to begin with in large part because guys higher on the wish list take other jobs. If you fire Canales you're gonna end up replacing him with another third tier candidate who wasn't being seriously considered by other teams with openings. That's just the reality of the situation right now as far as I can tell. Secondly, despite plenty of room for critique, we are 6-6 despite the worst QB play in the league. That's really damn hard to pull off in the modern NFL. Especially when your D isn't dominant. Our D is greatly improved but is still a slightly below average overall defense ranking 18th in yards per game allowed and 20th in points allowed. Going 6-6 with atrocious QB play and slightly below average defensive play is pretty damn impressive. Even more impressive when you also factor in that we're in the red on turnovers differential at -3. When you combine league worst QB play with slightly below average D and negative turnover differential honestly you'd expect to be in play for the #1 overall pick, not 6-6 and having just played a game that a win would have you leading the division. So yeah, even though I'm far from sold I advocate for patience with Canales for the time being. If you ask me if I'm bringing him back next year, I'm a yes barring a catastrophic meltdown down the stretch which admittedly is very much a possibility.
