0.00% chance Tepper builds a new stadium in South Carolina...unbuilt/planned practice/office facilities have already gone completely sideways.

Tepper is going to make a great deal money by developing the area around an uptown stadium.

No one is developing anything off of Carowinds Blvd.  Its a sea of warehouses and distribution centers.

This downtown development info is interesting news, I'm curious to learn about what you know.  What exectly is he going to develop downtown?  I wasn't aware of him owning any developable land...

You've perfectly described the South End as it existed 30-40-50 years ago.

The Carowinds site is a short 14 minute drive from Panthers Stadium and getting in/out would be easier for just about everyone...and it also plays well to the 2-states/1-team theme in that the site straddles the NC/SC border.

Most of the infrastructure at Carowinds is old and tired and has been significantly if not fully depreciated...and the site would certainly be less expensive than the Charlotte Pipe & Foundry land (on a per acre basis anyway).

Personally I like have the stadium in town as well but clearly Tepper is hankering for a new one and it would seem he is going to consider all options in the process.

NOTE: This isn't my idea per se, a while back some other poster on this site suggested and I just happen to think his suggestion is a good one...would credit him if I could remember who said it!

If you drive from Fort Mill to central Charlotte you know that your 14 minute drive can take more than an hour depending in time of day. 77 has terrible traffic and daily accidents. Maybe it is 14 minutes by helicopter but not in a car.

With a large chunk of the city heading the same way for a game?

Will Ferrell Lol GIF

Anyone who drove down to Clemson in the day knew that 60000 people all heading to the stadium around the same time was a disaster coming and going. It would double the normal time to drive because there were limited ways in and out.

I dunno…maybe you should pay attention more to economic development news? He has clearly stated in the media about his desire to build an entertainment district around the stadium.  I dunno…there might be an empty 33 acre lot uptown that his current stadium sits on.  Plus another 20 acres of Pipe and Foundry land on the other side of 277 (assuming he buys all of their property).  But please tell me more of your “make Steele Creek great again” plan.

You can always tell who the delusional upstate SC people are when they start talking about 15 minute drives

Most NFL football games are held on Sunday...

...but you make a great point, regardless of the day folks from Fort Mill would have a much easier commute to the new Carowinds Stadium.

Pop into Waze and plan the same trip on Sunday morning...

...you know, when folks are actually going to an NFL game😉

[now + 3 different times on Sunday]

{obviously some stadium traffic on game day would change the math but the original poster intimated that Carowinds is like 38 miles from the current stadium}

    • I don't think so. I think once you're measuring electronically, the spot is where the sensor says it is. So if it says half yard short of the line to gain, that's the spot. Now how that works with scrums and the ball moving on two minute drills and poo is anybody's guess.
